History creates ‘place of fear’ for some
Mildred Otis won’t caucus for Barack Obama for president largely for one reason: She wants to save his life.

Otis, 87, remembers America’s violent civil rights movement 40 years ago when Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated.

And, having lived through those events, the Des Moines woman and others fear that Obama’s nomination could end in tragedy. “I think there’s a lot of people not ready for an African-American to be a president,” said Otis, a black woman.
[…]
“The strength of the Obama candidacy, I think, is an indication of how far the country has come,” said Sinclair-Chapman. “If, in fact, voters are sincere when they say that they won’t support a candidate because they fear for his or her life if they win the nomination, then that really completely undermines the progress that we think we see.”

  1. Well, if the nation isn’t ready for a black president, not voting for one is a sure way to ensure that we never will be.

Bad logic. Bad! (hits logic with rolled up newspaper)

I still think Kucinich is the best out there. I will vote for him in the primary because I like his politics. I don’t care about race or sex.

Since I have looked carefully at the politics of all of the candidates, or at least carefully enough to know if there are any reasons not to vote for a particular candidate under any circumstances, and have come to the conclusion that all of the Democratic candidates are better than all of the Republican candidates, in the general election, I will vote for whichever democrat gets the nod regardless of sex or skin tone, even if she is a republican at heart.

That right there is the terrorists winning, the terrorists known as the KKK.

  3. gquaglia says:

The strength of the Obama candidacy,

You think this is due to the fact that all the other candidates seem like shit. Its the old, the lesser of 2 evils. Same thing on the Republican side.

  4. Schillinger says:

    Is Obama really black?

  5. You says:

Don’t they have the secret service to prevent that?

I don’t know, he does have a hundred billion pounds of Oprah watching lard to penetrate.

If the power doesn’t want a man to become Prez. Don’t assume its a racial thing. Neither Kennedy was black, and Ron Pauls’ people fear the same thing.

    /tinfoil hat off

  9. Rabble Rouser says:

That’s like voting for Bush in the hope that he gets assassinated!

  10. McCullough says:

#10. Got proof? Cite a source please.

  11. Joven says:

Ive heard the same thing from the tin foil wing of Ron Paul supporters, but if there were people out to get them, why hasn’t it happened already, why are “they” waiting and even giving anybody they dont want to be president the chance.

Campaign trail = constant traveling = plenty of opportunities for “accidents”, if it hasn’t happened yet its most likely not gonna.

And even if they were going to, it shouldnt necessarily deter people, “The idea that once you kill someone no one will follow in their footsteps? The idea that all the ideas die with someone once you killed them? yeah….Jesus Christ.”

What a surprise. Thanks for giving us the results of your analysis.

My personal votes are a bit different, though not completely opposite.

The thing is, right now any woman and any black man sound like a better choice than the current Republican presidential candidates.

  16. Mister Catshit says:

    #14, pedro,

Geeze am I ever glad you posted proof that “kuzko” is supporting Oboma financially. Without your definitive proof, I would have gone to bed tonight thinking what a wack job you are. So, instead of just thinking you’re a wack job, now everyone knows.

  17. #16 – MikeN,

I never expected to surprise anyone with the statement. The one thing that the repugnicans are really good at is keeping all of their ducks in a row. There really aren’t significant differences among them.

None believe global warming to be a real issue.

None are for universal health care.

    They’re all anti-choice.

    None support gay marriage.

The democraps have a bit more variation in opinion only because they’re less good at enforcing that all of the candidates stick to the party line. Of course, I still hate the party for killing the party I really liked. But, they’re politics are less abhorrent to me, at least on average.

  18. Hate it when I do that. I try to be careful and I still fuck up once in a while.

Please replace my final they’re with their.

Dang that annoys me. A mind is a terrible thing.

What’s Kuzco? All I get out of Google is it’s a Disney thing. I don’t get out much, and I suspect Kuzco may be a South American thing, as there were many Spanish language hits on Google.

There, there, don’t let it get you down.

And have a Merry Christmas too.

    #23, Wackjob,

As I said, look for the court’s trasncripts [sic] for that case I put there. I’m not gonna do everything for you. Do your own research, since you don’t seem to believe what I wrote.

Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, …

You made the accusation and now you want ME to do the research to prove your inane point. Grow up.

Maybe Chavez is a little off the cuff or a “kuzco” as you put it. Was he worse than, oh, say a Monagas, Guzman, Cipriano Castro, or Gomez Of course, we can’t forget Venezuelan dictators like Delgato or Perez.

The last I looked, Chavez received 63% in the 2006 Presidential election. His party had 2/3s of the Congress. His support is mostly the poor and dispossessed. Those opposed are the wealthy who believe they have a right to own everything and long for the days of military dictatorships.
