Woman tries to rob bank … at drive-through window
A Florida woman is in custody after attempting a timid, and not very well planned, bank robbery Tuesday morning, according to authorities.

She slipped a note into the tube at the drive-through at the South Carolina Bank & Trust on U.S. 17 and waited for a response from the teller, said city spokesman Paul Floeckher. The teller was able to inform the manager, who called 911.

Police Chief Richard Nagy said the woman did not wear a disguise or conceal the tags on her vehicle during the attempted robbery. It appeared she randomly chose the bank and didn’t do much homework.

Yeah, yeah. Stupid, nutjob,… whatever. Or is she… Check out the most interesting part of the article:

n 2006, 78 of the 7,272 bank robberies nationwide occurred from a drive-through or walk-through window, according to special agent Steve Kodak, a national spokesman for the FBI. That’s about 1 percent.

And, even more surprisingly, some of them were successful.

So, there are banks where you can point a gun at a camera or the bullet proof glass at a drive up window and the teller, seeing the gun on her monitor, actually hands over wads of cash? Perhaps it’s time to reassess my career options.

  1. RTaylor says:

Bank clerks have exact instructions on how to handle robberies. Banks do not want heros, which have a tendency to get others hurt. Even if a teller prevents a theft, they may be fired for recklessness if they do not follow procedure.

Points for the St. Louis references. Double points for the Steve McQueen reference.

The silliness of humans never ceases to amaze me. 🙂

It’s not silliness. It’s blatant stupidity.

Here’s an improved approach. Bank robber points the gun at himself (or herself) and threatens their own life if the money doesn’t appear quickly. Or has a friend come along, and points an empty gun at them, as a hostage. Bet that will work far better than a “stick em up” note, up the tube (or at the call box). Sorry if I gave away an idea for a robbery. But I didn’t say that anyone should do it. And I doubt it’s a new idea, anyway.
