Former White House press secretary Scott McClellan writes in a memoir that he unintentionally misled the public about the leak of a CIA operative’s name because of misinformation given to him by President George W. Bush, political adviser Karl Rove and other top officials….

“I stood at the White House briefing room podium in front of the glare of the klieg lights for the better part of two weeks and publicly exonerated two of the senior most aides in the White House: Karl Rove and Scooter Libby,” McClellan, 39, wrote. “There was one problem. It was not true.

”McClellan wrote that he “unknowingly passed along false information. And five of the highest-ranking officials in the administration were involved in my doing so: Rove, Libby, the vice president, the president’s chief of staff, and the president himself.”

Nothing new about lies and deceit offered by this government as a replacement for honesty and ethics.

The list of committed conservatives who once accepted neocon “leadership” – now bailing on Bush – multiplies while Republican candidates fumble onstage to distance themselves from previous public endorsements of the “lie du jour”.

  1. Matt Garrett says:

“I was a liar then, but I’m not now?” So, we’re supposed to believe him? How do we know he’s not lying now to sell books to the ravenous BDS Fever Swamp?

  2. Steve says:

How do we know he is not lying now? Because he is saying something the MSM wants to hear and salivate over. This blog will eat it up because a lot the posters want to believe everything negative about the administration and nothing good.

I will save some time here, I can hear the responses now, Bush is bad and has never in his life done anything good and certainly nothing during his presidency. blah blah blah

No, I have not had any Kool Aid lately.

My list of things I don’t like about this administration is long but not long enough to make me sound like some deranged idiot.

  3. JPV says:

My list of things I don’t like about this administration is long but not long enough to make me sound like some deranged idiot.

    —–

    I got news for you.

  4. Awake says:

Given the results of the Libby trial, and the many other revelations by those involved in the Valerie Plame case, there is nothing new being told to us about the fact that higher-ups lied throughout the event.

What is new is that the person that was the official spokesman for the White House at the time is stating that he was intentionally and deliberately told lies to repeat to the press for further dissemination to the public.

I think that even Bush was taken by surprise by the conduct and involvement of his staff in this matter. After all, Bush did say that he would hold people in the White House accountable if they were involved with the leak. When it turned out that the Vice President himself was involved, Bush had no recourse but to ignore the whole matter and hope that it would go away, much like Larry Craig did.

Will the President ever hold anyone accountable for the Valerie Plame case? Nope. But then, he has never held anyone accountable for anything, including himself.

  5. Sounds The Alarm says:

Steve – too late you already sound like a “deranged idiot”, or to use a synonym “neocon”. Just who has to testify to convince you?

Well even Stalin has his supporters.

  6. Steve says:

STA – More liberal pablum. I have said before I’m conservative. Much like others you insist on using the over worked “neocon” to describe my position. Wrong again. Try and separate conservatism from the other labels because they are not synonymous.

The amazing thing is that Bush is the first President to ever have done something wrong. Wow!

  7. J says:

    Matt & Steve

You really see the world through special glasses don’t you? Did you see the part that said “unknowingly”? In what has been released so far Mr. McClellan is not admitting to being a liar. He is saying he was told what to say by the higher ups and then found it to be untrue. Maybe he has a conscience and maybe it has gotten to him.

I it is almost funny how predictable you people are. Well it would be funny if the well being of the world was not put in danger by ignorant people like you.

  8. James Hill says:

Note how the hack doesn’t even notice this coming out before a holiday, all to hide the story.

  9. Micromike says:

Was there ever any doubt that this leak came directly from our traitorous president. Is there any doubt that he aids and abets the enemy by being business partners with the Bin Laden family for decades and pumping millions of dollars directly to the terrorist training camps and bombing attacks all over the world. The only doubt is, will he ever be brought to justice for his criminal acts or will he declare martial law and make himself president for life.

As for Steve and his critics, the labels you guys bandy about and argue over are part of the divisive mechanism being used by the political parties to keep us from acting as a united public for the greater good of the American People. As long as you hate and argue based on these labels you won’t be doing anything effective about making America a better place and you create the polarized citizenry that is easily misled and fooled. Neocon or liberal we all have bills and taxes to pay and we all want a better world for our children. If you guys would grow up and talk about issues instead of labels maybe we could make some progress in the right direction instead of being the stupid sheep our politicians depend on us to be so they can continue to feather their own nests at our expense.

    We are:
    A nation of sheep
    owned by pigs
    ruled by wolves

as the t-shirt says, but we can do better if we quit doing the things that divide us into hate groups and making it easy for politicians to exploit our fears.

  10. Sounds The Alarm says:

    Steve

I asked you a question, do you have the guts to answer it? – Just who has to testify to convince you? How many more generals, national security advisers, aids, press secs etc.

The “he did it too” defense is just another conservative cop out. Of course other presidents have done wrong – and if it rises to this level they deserve to get tossed.

BTW I’m moderate – Much like others you insist on using the over worked “liberal” to describe my position. Wrong again. Try and separate moderate from the other labels because they are not synonymous.

  11. Sounds The Alarm says:

    James

“Note how the hack doesn’t even notice this coming out before a holiday, all to hide the story.”

You get some special pride out of that? Do you laugh at gang rapes too? Maybe congratulate pedophiles when they get don’t get caught?

  12. Dennis says:

    Lets see:
    1. Gather people unemployed that can work for your company.
    2. Get those people to obtain Government Jobs through the use of false polls and improper elections, so that they can start and maintain a war for years.
    3. PROFIT!!!!!!

Lying is just another way of telling people how you feel towards them. So far…we have been lied to for 7 years. Regardless of political affiliation, I DON’T LIKE BEING LIED TO. Especially by an APPOINTED representative from the Corporate Conglomerates and IWM (Industrial War Machine). Dem or Repub….THEY ALL SEEM TO LIE ABOUT WHO MAKES MONEY.
They do. YOUR Money. How much more do we feel as Americans we should OWE?

  13. Steve says:

#10 STA – Hell I thought you were being rhetorical because of how long the list would be, but in hindsight I was mistaken so I’ll make it simple and short.

All the people who will answer honestly and truthfully from the current and last administration. Why because I believe that they have turned out to be the two most corrupt in the last 50 years.

See, it is a short list since you probably won’t find anyone I would believe out of either.

I would probably vote for Ron Paul except I thought they said Rue Paul and got confused.

Left side fine, right side fine but I always heard the middle of the road is where you get run over.

  14. Steve says:

#9 MM – I’m listening. Offer up a real solution that will work and I’ll be there with you.

Otherwise we can just sit back and watch the country go down the shitter due to both parties.

  15. Phillep says:

Sources: State Department official source of Plame leak
    POSTED: 1719 GMT (0119 HKT), August 30, 2006

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Former Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage was the source who revealed the identity of CIA officer Valerie Plame to syndicated columnist Robert Novak in 2003, touching off a federal investigation, two sources familiar with Armitage’s role tell CNN.

The sources said Armitage revealed Plame’s role at the CIA almost inadvertently in a casual conversation with Novak, and it is not clear if he knew her identity was classified at the time.

Armitage was not indicted by the federal grand jury that investigated the disclosure of Plame’s name to Novak and other journalists. Deliberately revealing the identify of a CIA operative can be a crime.

    (end snip)

Armitage is also an ardent anti Bush political activist.

I’m sure someone is going to mention yellow cake. Bush said /Britain/ had information Saddam was trying to buy yellow cake “in Africa” (country not specified). Wilson told the CIA that he thought Saddam was trying to buy yellow cake. However, Wilson later claimed that Bush said Saddam actually had purchased yellowcake. Wilson lied.

Had Bush intended to strike back at Wilson, simply repeating what he (Bush) said, finding what Wilson actually said and comparing it to what Wilson was claiming would have done that.

  16. Steve says:

Wiki – Lie – A lie is a type of deception in the form of an untruthful statement with the intention to deceive, often with the further intention to maintain a secret or reputation, or to avoid punishment. To lie is to state something one believes is false with the intention that it be taken for the truth by someone else. A liar is a person who is lying, who has lied, or who lies repeatedly.

So if someone tells the President something that is not true and the President tells someone else must we assume that the President is a liar or the person that gave him the lie in the first place?

I mean, it isn’t the same as saying “I did not have sex with that woman” and perjuring yourself because of your definition of sex is.

It certainly sounds as bad as someone walking into the National Archives and stuffing papers in his pants and stealing them.

You pays your money in taxes and you get what you pay for. Either ticket.

  17. god says:

Dipshits who still worry more about blowjobs than killing thousands of people for a profit.

Ah well. Keep on rocking in the Free World.

  18. J says:

    Steve

Congratulations to you for working the “Clinton got a blow job and lied about it” talking point into the debate.

    Phillep

Nice 3 card Monty argument. Too bad no one cares about Joe Wilson. All we care about is the Bush administration exposing a Deep Cover CIA agent and then lying about it. What Joe Wilson said or didn’t say is irrelevant.

  19. Steve says:

#17 God – Sad that you think it was about a blowjob in the oval office.

    #18 J – Same

I have already been roasted for “they did it so I can to” bullshit so I guess you two can be as well.

I don’t really care about Clinton’s sex life. The problem was with his character and lying about what he did. Sorry you can’t tell the difference between a blowjob and a lying President.

  20. J says:

Steve did you read my post?

I said “Clinton got a blow job and lied about it”

See once again you prove that you only see what you want to see through those glasses of yours.

But lets not kid each other. You don’t really care at all about the lie. It is the dirtyness of the “SEX” that works for you.

  21. Steve says:

#20 J – Yes I read it. Yes I made a mistake. I’ll clean the glasses and yes the dirtyness of the SEX that works for me.

Now wait, tell me again, does that make me a lying liberal Democrat or bathroom stall Republican? I keep forgetting which.

  22. TonyB says:

We impeach a president for a BJ and we don’t impeach this bunch? We’re all screwed.

  23. Sounds The Alarm says:

    #13 Steve.

I completely agree as to this and last administrations.

As to the middle – I’ve got the tire marks.

  24. J says:

    Steve

Honestly I could care less about Senator Larry Craig(R) and whether he was looking for gay sex. As long as it is between two adults. What bothers me about him is that he attacks homosexuals as often as he can yet he is looking for gay sex. That make him worse than a liar. That makes him, like most Republicans, a hypocrite.

Lets face it no one gets any high office without lying their ass off. So what we are left with is what lies are ok and which are not. Lying about a blow job is very low on my list. Lying about a war and crimes you have committed is not.

  25. Steve says:

#24 J – So most Republicans are hypocrites? I thought it was just the holier than thou bunch of shit stick preachers espousing their go to heaven religion and then get caught having sex with hookers or (insert your favorite here).

Could be any race, sex or political affiliation. Hypocrisy isn’t limited to just Republicans.

  26. Rabble Rouser says:

Impeach Bushco, Inc. for blowing the job.

Not that there are any other reasons to impeach these bums, but the only way to see justice, is to investigate, impeach, and incarcerate these bastards.

What we need in this country is a general strike, where the all the people refuse to go to work, until something is done for WE THE PEOPLE.

  27. Phillep says:

J, Bush did not blow Plame’s cover. Armitage, who no one is going to call a friend of Bush’s, blew her cover.

Nor do we have any evidence that she was actually under deep cover, not driving to Langely every work day as she did.

  28. KevinL says:

“Nothing new about lies and deceit offered by this government as a replacement for honesty and ethics.”

Are you talking about one of the Bush administrations or one of the Clintons?

  29. Phillep says:

    Hmmm:

    “Republican” plus “hypocrisy” = IMPEACH!

“Democrat” plus “hypocrisy” = no impeachment

Hmmm. What’s different about the two cases?

  30. Glenn E says:

Apparently the GOP genuinely wants the Dems to take the Presidency for a term or two. Or they wouldn’t be leaking their leakers’ names this way Everything else they can keep secret, till its not news anymore. But their own, are writing tell-all books after resigning/retiring.
