What was there first. The train/train tracks or market?

I’m guessing train/train tracks. The crazy part is that people shop in the market.

The ingenuity with which people adapt to their environment is amazing.

The comments on this thread are inane. I expect better from your readers John.

  7. kendo says:

Here there would of course be all sorts of government regulation and enforcement to keep the market away from the tracks. This is our punishment for not electing libertarians.

  8. MikeN says:

Keeping that market out helps Walmart’s bottom line.

  9. hhopper says:

Wow, what if that train came through at 100 mph?

    #9.
I was near a 40 mph Metra train and it’s quite a gust of wind. A 100 would lift those tents off the ground.

I think it’s more like “Market Encroaches on Train Tracks.”

What an ingenious use of space. Let’s hope that Bangkok is short on sociopaths like ECA.

It is all part of the Thais’ Buddhist way of seeing the world.
It can be boiled down to “Mai Pen Rai” or “it doesn’t matter”. You do the best with what you have available.

When I asked my wife (a mia farang) about the uneven sidewalks in BKK and didn’t people sue after tripping over the cracks she told me the Thais view it this way; “Thousands of people have walked over that crack without tripping. Who has the problem, you or the cracked sidewalk?”

Thailand is a wonderful country filled with wonderful and amazing things. I encourage anyone to visit and get away from the tourist places, bars and massage parlors in BKK.
