‘Cool Cash’ card confusion

The Cool Cash [lottery] game – launched on Monday – was taken out of shops yesterday after some players failed to grasp whether or not they had won.

[…T]he concept of comparing negative numbers proved too difficult for some. Camelot received dozens of complaints on the first day from players who could not understand how, for example, -5 is higher than -6.

Tina Farrell, from Levenshulme, called Camelot after failing to win with several cards.

The 23-year-old, who said she had left school without a maths GCSE, said: “On one of my cards it said I had to find temperatures lower than -8. The numbers I uncovered were -6 and -7 so I thought I had won, and so did the woman in the shop. But when she scanned the card the machine said I hadn’t.

“I phoned Camelot and they fobbed me off with some story that -6 is higher – not lower – than -8 but I’m not having it.

    Higher but not larger.

  2. DBR says:

“Perfect. I think in the case of a game like this when someone erroneously turns in the wrong card that they should be charged the loosing amount.”

#3: “Losing”, not “loosing”(sic). Pot. Kettle. None more black.

  3. Ho-Lip Tex says:

    #5 “Cripes!!!”

    No, Chavs.

  4. Joshua says:

I can’t stop laughing at the girl who isn’t *having it*….gotta love those Brit’s. 🙂

  5. MG says:

Tina was later heard to exclaim “My parents were brother and sister!”

  6. BubbaRay says:

Too late to the party again.

In my best Jethro Bodine voice, “Let’s see, ought goes into ought ought times… Daddy, this cipherin’ makes my head hurt!”

Say, with the writer’s strike in full swing, maybe we’ll get to see Beverly Hillbillies reruns instead of Nova and I can “loose” several of them thar’ IQ thingies.

  7. hamster says:

I understand negative and positive numbers.
The problem for camelot is I also understand my odds of actually winning are tiny so I dont play.

  8. Eir says:

no one commented on the girls. this amazes me, and I like how they look.

  9. Joe says:

since no-one commented on the photo i’ll throw out a couple.

“wow, girls are always a problem.”

    “I would totally do that.”

“Those four girls were the top off their class.”

..I was stretching for that last one
