A 32-year-old Santa Fe man showed up at a meeting with his probation officer wearing a Rolex watch that had been stolen two days earlier during a home-invasion robbery on the city’s south side, police said.

Victor Lopez told police a friend had brought the watch to his house and left it there, Deputy Police Chief Aric Wheeler said.

Officers arrested Lopez on a probation violation for possessing stolen property and booked him into the Santa Fe County jail. Wheeler said he could face other charges if the victim identifies Lopez as one of three men who broke into his home Sunday night.

How many times can you say it? You don’t choose to be a crook – because you’re smart.

  1. Janky-o says:

“You don’t choose to be a crook – because you’re smart.” Unless your name is Moriarty.

  2. ECA says:

Moriarty did it as a recreation of the mind…

  3. Erik Blazynski says:

You don’t choose to be a crook. Crooks are a product society. Years of repression of black people results in crookdom..

Just kidding… But I have heard this lame ass argument.

  4. Mr. Fusion says:

Hey, the knock offs are better than some originals.

  5. Rabbit says:

There are smart crooks – they’re just too smart to be caught. You hear about it sometimes, but it’s usually very rare.

Most of the smart crooks that are caught, and you hear about – they’re not actually smart… they’re just perceived smart by people that are just slightly dumber than they are.

I knew a couple guys did time for their part in a truck theft/chop shop ring. They worked longer hours than in any kind of straight job, they worked harder, cutting truck frames with torches, etc, made less money than they could have made in a regular job and then wound up doing time for their labors. They were pretty good old boys, but dumb as fence posts.
