If you are unaware of this EMO deal, here is a good mainstream look at it. Why I found this interesting is because it seems to be the hot subculture in Utah! This report is from a Utah station. Good summary for the old farts who cannot keep up with these sorts of trends. Looks like nihilism to me with a new name. The documentary was posted as humor on the College Humor site. In some meta-sense it is humor, albeit sick humor.

    No doubt. A more telling statistic: Who hasn’t erver thought of committing suicide in Utah?

  2. Brandon says:

    Sorry Death Cab fans, that was the one song I didn’t really recognize from the video. While I’m not a big fan of Death Cab, I do like their side-project The Postal Service.

  3. wriprodir says:

    Emo?

    I haven;t seen Emo in YEARS!

    “My girlfriend said, `Emo, I’m seeing another man.’ I said `Well, try rubbing your eyes or something!'”

  4. MORANS… these people are morans.. they’re citing sites making fun of EMO as part of the “EMO culture” LOLHAHAHAH idiiots… that Death Cab for Cutie song is about loved ones dying alone or your elders as they pass… not about suicide.. fucking morons

  5. ryan says:

    =====

    Q: How many Emos does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

    A: None. They’d rather sit in the dark & cry.
    or
    A: Two… one to fix it, and one to write a song about how the shattered pieces reflect their broken lives.

    =====

    Q: How do you get an Emo kid out of a tree?

    A: Cut the rope

    =====

    Q: Why didn’t the Emo Kid hang himself?

    A: He couldn’t find a weeping willow.

    =====

    Hey… Is that a razor blade in your pocket or are you just sad to see me?

  8. Clueless Drones says:

    Uhhhh, are you really just now getting around to finding out about this?
    Wow, thank FSM you are here to clue the idiot parents into it. Let’s see put EMO kids on screen and they play it up.

    Of course, you are asking other kids about it, so you are sure going to get accurate information.

    When I was growing up in the 80’s there were a lot of kids cutting themselves and playing dark music.

    Wow, must be a slow news time.

  9. Nik says:

    Well I can see at least one other person noticed the “news” station was showing parody emo material and using it to describe emo. Brilliantly clueless, nice. 🙂

  10. Jessica says:

    The same generation that flopped around spreading their legs and getting wasted in the 60s are worrying about us? It’s amazing how obsessed adults are with “teen sex,” “college drinking,” and all the other “weird” and “dangerous” stuff…

    Um… they did far worse when they were young… like 40 years ago.

    I still remember the whole, “Oh no, Maralyn Manson causes people to shoot their peers!” crap. It’s almost like they want us to be the perfect little darlings they weren’t when they were young…

  11. Sofieee says:

    People just say that bein EMO is slitting your wrists, but i slit my wrists and am EMO, its all so much deeper than people make out, its music, love, fasion and feeling. When i told my friends they went crazy! but im only EMO where is the big deal…
    PS.–> Are there any gd lkin emo boys out there 4 meh ,,, ma addi is xx_xxsofixxerexx_xx@hotmail.co.uk

  12. Joel says:

    Okay but honestly this video is LAME, the people who are emo has nothing to do with this style it is just a trend people are following more and more, the poeple that cut themselves should be known as depressed and as EMOTIONAL but not as an EMO KID because if you wear tight pants or dress like that that doesnt make you emo 80% of these people are normal and there are some that are just idiots, and these kids dont need HELP they need a BEATING from there parents because there not doing it cuz there depressed, there following a SICK trend and should cut the ride way, and finish themselves off!

  13. RiddlerHanjinome says:

    Okay, some of you people make me want to grab a really big weapon and shoot you all in the ****ing face with it. Especially #45.

    But I’ve been accused of being emo despite the fact that I have an easy job that I love, an awesome 2-bedroom condo near the beach that I rent, and other than the fact that I’m single, life is great. I actually enjoy, now that I live half an hour away from any family, waking up every morning.

    So why do one or two of my friends say I’m emo? For some of the music I listen to, and the fact that I wear black. I wear other colors too. For example, the shirt I’m wearing now is green with a fugly leprechaun dude and it says “KISS ME, I’M IRISH” on it. I wear white, green, black, red, blue, all those good colors. And I listen to bands like three Days Grace, Nickelback, Coheed and Cambria, Rise Against, Evanescence, so on and so forth. But I also listen to stuff that people don’t consider “emo”, i.e., Avenged Sevenfold, Korn, The Misfits, Stephen Lynch, Skillet….

    What is emo supposed to be anyway? The term was around before there were wrist-cutting, attention-seeking little idiots runnign amok. I get told my music is emo because some of it talks about emotions. Big ****ing deal. Music was DESIGNED to bring out emotion. I listen to jazz, classical and all that, too. And anybody with an ear for classical can tell you how it feels to hear someone beautifully, masterfully play a violin, or a piano. Or, for people with more modern tastes, someone playing an amazing guitar solo. Take the Avenged Sevenfold song “Seize the Day”. Watch the video sometime, pay attention to the story and the lyrics, then it’s followed by an AMAZING guitar solo from Synyster Gates.

    That’s why some of my music is called “emo”. Because it does what music is designed to do: Relate to emotions. I don’t listen to music that is all screaming or that deep-voiced grunting, growling ****, like a lot of metal is. I listen to musicians who are just that – musicians. People than actually SING. And I enjoy lyrics that tell a story. Does that make me emo? If so, damn. Although, I’ve always been told I’m closer to goth anyway.

  15. Reaper says:

    i think you are all taking this out of hand
    to those who are emo you dont have it that bad look at all of the other people around the world that have it worse look at a lot of good people that die every day you dont have it bad your usin that as an excuse to not man up to the world just face it instead of hiding from it
    to all of those who hate them maibe they are depressed because you all keep on picking on them maibe if you just let it be it would pass as another craze and emo does not mean cut your wrist or whine a lot all those bands mentioned a lot of them hate the term emo espesially Mychemicalromance i should know thats my favorite band and i have heard them mention it
