How is it possible for someone to out-stupid Ann Coulter? Oh, yeah. We’re talking about Rush and his attacks on vets who, unlike him, risked their lives in Iraq and now are calling for change. Here is an article from, of all places, Fox News which discusses Rush’s boss’ trying to weasel him out of what he said. Fox seems to be trying to have it both ways: condemn what he said, sort of, while not attacking their close, personal friend.

  1. Jennifer Emick says:

#32- Limbaugh liked both oxycontin and oxycodone (Vicodin, among oither things), both in the same drug family.

In any case, if you’re willing to openly admit you take ANY entertainer seriously, you have bigger problems than your political affiliations.

  2. mxpwr03 says:

First off, Why don’t you assault both Rush and ABC News, as the former made the popularized comment, while the latter ran the original story titled “Phony War Vets?”

Second, why don’t you run a comparison piece between what Rush said and what moveon.org said about General Petraeus, than ask the question what is wrong with the politics & civil discourse with regards to the Iraq War? At least that would allow both sides of the political spectrum to have an actual debate, not just vociferate their disdain for a radio entertainer.

  3. MikeN says:

Oh no, to defend himself on charges he called anti-war veterans ‘phony soldiers’, Rush edited out comments on WMD in Iraq. He’s been caught red-handed, and Media Matters has the proof.

  4. Mister Mustard says:

    >>Oh, and he was addicted to oxycodone not vicodine.

Woops. My bad. Those drug addicts all look alike to me.

For a guy who’s so “consistent in what he believes” “over the years”, I was greatly disappointed that he declined to take the same jail-time penalty that he demanded (pre-bust) for other drug addicts who get caught obtaining drugs to feed their addiction illegally.

Oh well. Maybe we only got the edited transcript on that one too.

  5. MikeN says:

    http://tinyurl.com/2lw3qd

This is what Rush has as the transcript for the show. Is someone claiming that this is not correct?

He starts out accusing one caller of being a phony Republican(which maybe applies to Rush himself,) then has this caller on complaining about media coverage of the war.

  6. Mister Mustard says:

    >>Is someone claiming that this is not correct?

Who the fuck knows? If there’s one thing we’ve learned from Anal Cyst Limbaugh over the years, it’s that you can’t trust him.

    Best idea: Ignore him.

  7. Sounds The Alarm says:

The funny thing is Rush is the biggest phony of them all. Never served his country – was on the dole for a couple years etc.

  8. grog says:

rush limbaugh is a drug addict and draft dodger — nothing he says matters — never trust a junkie!

  9. Jim W. says:

Is it just me or did that soldier look like a POW reading a cue card held up by his captors?

    /first impressions

  10. Rabble Rouser says:

I wish all of the America hating right wing whackos would admit that Rush Limbaugh is a freakin’ LIAR!
He’s just a shill for Bushco, Inc.
He has no right to say anything about anyone who served in the military, because the fact of the matter is that he dodged the draft during Viet Nam.
He tells people to NOT check his sources of information, because everything he says is true. Next thing, he’s going to tell them that the tooth fairy and Santa Claus are real live people.

If you believe one thing that Rush says, YOU are either a traitor to the United States, need to get some real education, or both.

  11. emeryjay says:

#7 Since when did we take away First Amendment rights from soldiers or veterans?

As citizens of the U.S. we not only have a right to criticize elected officials, but we also have a duty to challenge elected officials… even when it is the Commander in Chief. The prez is fair game from anyone, and I suspect a veteran has earned the right more than I.

Too many posters are worried about the fake or real issue of both Rush Limbaugh (Gish Windbag) or the veteran soldier.

He has the right to criticize He did not relinquish that right when he put on a uniform.

Who cares who funded what or who is an enemy of a candidates. It’s called free speech — just liek the free speech we are exercising here.

Gush is a chicken hawk. Bush was a weekend chicken hawk.

The U.S. military is made up of a huge number of brave men and women who began as weekend soldiers. — I don;t want to confuse them with chicken hawks.

  12. mark says:

“#7 Since when did we take away First Amendment rights from soldiers or veterans?” “He has the right to criticize He did not relinquish that right when he put on a uniform. ”

Un-uh, sorry, it doesnt work that way.

If your in the military, you have pretty much given away most of your rights. Only when you become a civilian again do you regain them.

  13. Phillep says:

LOL. The lefty true believers bashing Blimpo (can’t stand him). (Blimpo’s best use is to cause the Looney Left to foam at the mouth.)

In this case, Blimpo is in the (if you’ll pardon the expression) right. Edited tape? To clarify exactly what his position is. No biggy. Everyone has said things that could be taken in a wrong way, uh, like saying “you could end up in Iraq”.

(:G: Are you going to insist that Hillary, Kerry, Gore, etc also be held to what they /actually/ say, instead of the edited tapes released by the MSM?)

If this guy, Brian McGough, who I’ve never heard of, is a Iraq vet, he should be really annoyed by people like that pencil necked Jesse MacBeth, the sort of phony soldier Rush was refering to. People like JB totally destroy McGough’s message, making McGough sound like a loon or kook.

Ever see camo wearing street bums claiming to be Viet Nam vets, years after all the US troops left Viet Nam? The uniform was supposed to prove they are veterans? Now, I liked to use camo from that era for working in the woods because it is really durable. However, It’s not durable enough to stand up to being worn every day for over a year, and the homeless don’t have a place to stash a seabag full of clothing. Those “veterans” were phony soldiers. Every VA hospital has phony soldiers showing up for medical care. Every flop house has phony soldiers. Even Congress has phony soldiers. Phony soldiers are very common.

  14. James Hill says:

You guys aren’t very good at this, are you?

    Hacks.

  15. Noam Sane says:

I’m far more likely to believe Rush than Harry Reid.

Oh, and he was addicted to oxycodone not vicodine. (Not sure on the spelling of those. Does that make me an uneducated idiot?)

No. Believing Rush Limbaugh makes you an uneducated idiot.

  16. Joseph Smith, Jr. says:

    48. James, I command you to kill yourself, do it now.

    Joe “Bannanas” Smith Jr.

  17. Rabble Rouser says:

    He Phillep,
How many tours of duty did that comedian, Rush do?

now just sit down and STFU!

You are an Egyptian, living in de Nile, and you should realize that your HERO, Rush, is a freakin’ phony, and a liar! He never served, and though he may have the constitutional right to, he does not have the moral right to criticize ANYONE who put on a uniform. Plain and simple!

  18. Mister Mustard says:

    >>I’m far more likely to believe Rush than Harry Reid.

Well, you’re a fucking idiot. There’s no other explanations. Anybody who is stupid enough to believe Anal Cyst about ANYTHING should have been aborted. I’ll bet even the Holy Rollers would agree with that.

  19. iGlobalWarmer says:

#52 – Are you and James Hill drinking together today? Sounds like you’re having a bad day today too.

  20. Olo Baggins of Bywater says:

Colbert is a better source of honest info than Rush.

And, they’re both on the same ‘entertainment plane’ as far as I’m concerned.

  21. redwolf says:

It’s all well and good for us internet geeks to pontificate about how Rush is good/evil. (My head was about to explode, so I stopped reading the comments about half way down. Did anyone mention that Rush’s morning update on the Tuesday before the conversation in question was a description of Jesse MacBeth? I think this gives a lot more cover to Rush than the subsequent mention of Jesse MacBeth’s “service”)

The real story should be that the US Senate is paying any attention to this. Maybe next they will pass a resolution condemning Desperate Housewives. The Congress of the United States of American should be taking constructive measures on either a) getting us out of Iraq or b) pacifying Iraq. Instead they sound more like the harpies on “The View” than “a more deliberative body than the House of Representatives; the Senate is smaller and its members serve longer terms, allowing for a more collegial and less partisan atmosphere that is somewhat more insulated from public opinion than the House.” (last description is from Wikipedia)

  22. Sounds The Alarm says:

    #55 – truth.

  23. Phillep says:

Hey Rabble Rouser, glad you admit to being so desperate for power and recognition that you seek followers among the rabble. Have you been able to rouse them to anything other than throwing beer bottles at you?

As I said, I can’t stand Limbough, and think his sole redeeming virtue is he has people like you and your brainless followers, if you actually have any outside your imagination, foaming at the mouth.

(Ever watch “Life of Brian”? “SPLINTER!!!”)

Nor can I stand fakes like Jesse MacBeth, a bird dropping with no redeeming value.

McGough, will have credibility regarding aspects of the fighting in Iraq (assuming he proves legit) that people who have not been in combat lack, but I prefer to get opinions from a wide variety of sources, and sort them by what area they have credibility in.

Of course, that’s a bit complex for you, and far too complex for the people you seek to be a leader of.

  24. OhForTheLoveOf says:

#54 – Colbert is a better source of honest info than Rush.

And, they’re both on the same ‘entertainment plane’ as far as I’m concerned.

    Not really… Colbert is funny.

  25. iGlobalWarmer says:

Yeah, but Cindy Sheehan or Algore are funnier and they have even better fiction than Colbert.

  26. OhForTheLoveOf says:

#59 – Wow man… way to beat the dead horse.

  27. MikeN says:

All you guys crying Chickenhawk, I’m sure you’ll line up and vote for John McCain or Duncan Hunter over Hillary Clinton, then?

  28. MikeN says:

This while Limbaugh thing is a precursor to the Democrats’ trying to reinstate the Fairness Doctrine. They want to shut down talk radio. I’m not sure why people claim they are the party of free speech.

  29. Mark T. says:

Has anyone bothered to watch the ABC World News report with Charles Gibson “Phony Heroes” that started all this?

This pre-dated Limbaugh’s comments by a few days is the genesis of the whole brouhaha. If you haven’t watched it than you only know half of the story. This is what all the fuss is about. This is what Limbaugh was referring to.

    http://tinyurl.com/2qrfah

Media Matters is one of the so-called “media watchdog” groups that dissect every word spoken on talk radio. They are constantly on the lookout for the sound bite that can be used to burn their political opponents, even if it is out of context.

Watch the report and decide for yourself.

  30. Rodney King says:

    Can we all get along?
