A piece of outer space named for George Takei is in kind of a rough neighborhood for somebody who steers a starship: an asteroid belt.
“I am now a heavenly body,” George Takei said Tuesday.
An asteroid between Mars and Jupiter has been renamed 7307 Takei in honor of the actor, best known for his role as Hikaru Sulu in the original “Star Trek” series and movies.
Still rockin’ in outer space and on Earth.
My kid’s more familiar with George Takei for his role in Heroes. Guess its time to break out the DVD collection and let her see his Star Trek stuff. ‘course I was an Uhura fan myself 🙂
Lt. Sulu??? Last we saw him in Star Trek VI he was a Captain in charge of the USS Excelsior. Respect, please.
WOOT!! Go Sulu!!
#1 wtf? Why is Sulu in hero’s?
Capt. Sulu’s been to the edge of the galaxy and all he gets is an asteroid?
Still, it’s darned cool. Warp 9 Mr. Sulu, congrats!

George Takei did a lot of give and take at the Shatner Roast. Mostly, he took a lot of shit, but rolled with it when he came up on stage.
Unfortunately, modern Roasts are no where near as funny or good as the Rat Packs’ Roasts, back in the day.
That’s Captain Sulu, you Star Trek Trivia ignoramuses !!! Promoted to captain for Star Trek VI …
Go Sulu.
