Things sure have changed since I was in school.

Ontario boy may have agreed to be set on fire

An incident in which a 14-year-old boy was badly burned at an Ontario high school after being doused with Axe body spray and set alight, has uncovered a disturbing practice that police say is happening across the province and beyond.

The boy suffered first-, second- and third-degree burns to his torso Tuesday afternoon when another male student doused him with the spray and set him on fire. He was treated and released from hospital.

“This is a fairly common thing around the province,” said Middlesex Ontario Provincial Police Const. Doug Graham.

Graham said police were aware that kids were taking body sprays, in particular Axe and Tag, spraying them on objects and lighting them on fire, but since Tuesday’s incident at a London-area school they have learned that lighting people ablaze — usually for a split second — is a popular pastime among some teens.

“Now we have asked around the school about this and they said ‘Yeah, we do this,’” said Graham.

Agreed, Natural selection. Don’t bring him to the hospital. Let the gangrene take him away.

    “Axe body spray”??

If I had any of that http://tinyurl.com/3bxex5 lying around the house, I’d probably volunteer to get burnt up too. Jeez.

  4. Ryan Vande Water says:

We used to do the same thing with bug repellent when I was in scouts. Spray it on your hand…. light it. burns painlessly for a few seconds. Shake your hand real fast, goes out.

Kids do stupid shit. They have since the beginning of time. They’re still going to do it. Best you can do is keep fire extinguishers and first aid kits handy, and try and teach them the best you can. Usually, you use the stupid shit you did as a kid as a source of learning for them.

    Sounds like fun, eh?

I remember doing this as a kid and I’m from Ontario, Canada. Yeah, Canucks are pretty dumb.

  8. Cinaedh says:

I guess they haven’t figured out it’s likely pure alcohol that’s burning and you don’t burn alcohol, you drink it.

Emergency Rooms, please stand by for the stampede!

Check Youtube for the number of Axe-related fire videos…I don’t think it’s just in Canada somehow.

  12. #3 – MM,

That’s hilarious. Stylishly designed to fit in the palm of your hand …

Where do they think this shit up?

  13. GigG says:

This is obviously caused by the kids having knowledge of Canada’s free, state paid health system.

Canada’s health system is neither “free” nor paid by “the state”.

It’s expensive and it’s paid for by the taxpayers, just like everything else the government doles out!

  16. Mr. Fusion says:

    #9, Jess,

That is so sick. It is also so funny.

    #11, Scott,

That is serious stuff. I would have preferred to see some more hard statistics though.

    15. Cineadh: If you are a teenager, and don’t pay taxes, its free…. 😀

When I was a young lad we never used poofy body sprays to ignite each other, we used Roman Candles, Bottle Rockets (which were and maybe still are illegal in Canada so we had to sneak over to the USA and buy them there… God Bless American!), or, in a real pinch, just fill a ping pong ball with ‘strike anywhere’ match heads!

Pah! Body sprays… what up with young kids these days!

  18. catbeller says:

15: Come to the US. You’ll LOVE our system. You pay more than you do now in Canada and then get dropped when you get sick. Gotta love the free market! Down with the government!

  19. tikiloungelizard says:

#15 yeah, but here in the states we pay double the amount per capita than Canada does*, and at least you can actually get covered there. Here, if you’re already sick, no one will insure you. * http://tinyurl.com/32j8mb

Okay, We got in a lot of trouble when i was a teen. but lighting myself or anyone else on fire (on purpose) wasn’t even fleetingly considered.

  21. Ben Waymark says:

    20. JImR :- Obvious didn’t hang out with my sort then! I had my pant leg lit by a friend when I was thirteen, wearing long underwear and fake-wool socks…. they all melted onto my leg and caused third degree burns… couldn’t walk for a weeks…. still, it was all in the name of a good joke so no hard feelings…

  22. Cinaedh says:

    #n everyone

Just for the record, I didn’t say Canada’s health care system was “bad” or “too expensive”. I just freak out when I hear people say it’s “free” and “paid by the state”.

Doctors in Canada get rich off somebody and l’etat, ce’st moi!

Mr. Waymark has a point about teenagers but they’ll be paying more than their fair share later!

  23. Ben Waymark says:

    22. Cineadh: Unless, like me, they sucked teat for as long as they could then bugger off to other parts of the word (often the US, but in my case the UK) before they have to pay their due… 🙂

  24. Cinaedh says:

    #23 Ben

I have a theory that everything always balances out in the end.

One way or another, I’ll bet you end up paying somebody somewhere sometime.

If not, good for you for beating the system! There always has to be an exception to a rule and it might as well be you as some scumbag politician.
