Toys r’ Us sets up recall webpage. A little hard to find, I show you how. Gateway deal might be queered by an investor lawsuit. They say the deal is a rip-off for shareholders. Look for positive ink for Acer after next weeks fancy press conference in Madrid. I call it scam news. Microsoft making a deal with students. It releases a $60 MS-Office. The USA adds $4.5 trillion to the bottom line because of "fair use." Hollywood producers are now looking to bypass networks. It’s all about IPTV.

$60 is all the regular Office should cost, $100 at the most.

    #2, GQ,

I bought a copy of OpenOffice for $60 less than that. No complaints either.

  4. Greg Allen says:

    I’m sold on OpenOffice, too.

I switched a couple of years ago to OpenOffice and never have missed MS Office.

I lobbied with our IT guy to make the change for my office and he said “I’ll look in to it.” but my office still officially uses the MS product. I have no idea why. I suspect it is laziness to switch.

PS: If you only need a word processor, AbiWord loads faster than OpenOffice and it’s also free and open source.

John, the Office Ultimate steal thing isn’t WEB based. It the full boxed version, it is a web OFFER.

$60 for Ultimate isn’t too shabby. It comes with Groove, which is really awesome.

  6. Ah good..I’ll make the correction tomorrow. It makes my original point better…

The headlines for the Tech 5 are usually interesting. Pitty that its only audio.
Hey, John D ! Why not to put one core to dump to text ?
    A try can be interesting:
. one core is enought ?
. a demo of actual software at the task
    . some entertaining errors ( I’m sure! )
. you are missing google hits !!! 🙂
    bye – all

The most likely reason that Acer is doing the announcement in Spain is because they are the top seller in that country, surpassing HP even. There might also be some relation to Packard Bell, but it’s just a guess.
In regards to Gateway, I recently had problems with my laptop and I have to tell you that the representatives at the company are quite clueless about the products they sell. Trying to find information directly from Gateway to replace a component yielded erroneous information from them. Pity, they used to be such an awesome company. My second desktop was a Gateway DX2-66. I remember they used to have very cool adds on PC Magazine, and other trade publications, which were printed using environmentally friendly ink on recycled paper. My recommendation is to stay away from this company. Our prodigious prognosticator seems quite fond of Toshiba, maybe I’ll give them a try.

    Pedro,

I am finding that the unauthorized update seems to have caused one of my computers to stop routing between subnets. Can you confirm this?
