Check out engadget.com for latest software iphone hack.
“overrated” because it would take 12 hours to do? I think “too complicated for me to figure out” would be a better way to describe it

It says if you follow the link for engadget that it is all software.
John check out the software only hack at this URL

Methinx that kid took the word “crack” too literally…
Hey, you guys have been doing religion a lot lately, how come no link to the story about Mother Teresa being an athiest?
John – The digital projector, is it Digital Light Processing (DLP) or LCD?
DLP to me is somewhat too mechanical to be called digital in the pure sense when white light passes through a revolving RGB colour wheel to be reflected to the viewing screen by pixel sized mirrors flipping around to vary brightness and contrast.
Cheers
There is no iPhone. Oh, wait. Sorry wrong thread.
The software hack referenced by a few folks seems to be a true hack, a workable item, which doesn’t leave users with a half-crippled device. We don’t have an iPhone in the family, yet; but, since we all use T-Mobile, it will be interesting to follow this.
What I’m curious about – and so is AT&T, I imagine – is what will Apple’s response be? Just as a fair piece of reverse engineering probably was the core of the sim-hack, Apple can do the same and see what they need to change to defeat the hack.
But, will they? You don’t want to starting dicking around with your basic software package just because of a couple of geeks whose work may affect a miniscule amount of the market – though it may piss off your partner.
And over the long haul, an Open phone is what predominates in the rest of the world.
Great show. Terribly annoying theme music. Sounds like one of those stupid Frontier Airlines advertisements with the talking zoo animals. $.02 – cheers
Does the iPhone have 5mpixel camera? 3G access? Is below 250 Euros? Has no fidelity contract? Is it in Europe? Has V 2.0 being hinted in the rumors pages?
No?
Ok. Wake me up when it does.
This kid nailed the news media lotto:
1. A hacking story.
2. A story about the “it” product.
3. A Thursday with no other interesting water cooler story.
If he hadn’t had all three in his favor this story would have gotten zero attention.
And as a side note, I’ve had my iPhone from the first day they were out and am still enjoying it… and getting quite a bit of use out of it. The device can certainly be improved upon, but having an almost-real browser that’s a decent size trumps everything else on the market.
