Yeah, well you’d stick with WiMax too, if you’d sunk as much money into it as they have…

And it’s always nice to know the rest of the world eventually gets around to seeing things my way… I’ve been championing Solaris as the all-around OS for a few years now… guess IBM’s been listening over my shoulder. Seriously, John C, I think that M$’s sometimes allies are starting to notice that the writing’s on the wall for Billyco, and are gonna form new alliances – and IBM lining up with Sun while their comeback is on-track and happening could be a very smart move on their part.

Mr. Dvorak, I’ve always enjoyed your commentary in PCMag, buy only recently discovered your tech5 podcast! Thanks for the extra crank!

  3. JoaoPT says:

    #1 or the Valley of the Dinossaurs… the sequel… 🙂 (see… smiley.)

  4. Lauren the Ghoti says:

Yes, pedro, you’re very silly indeed.

I thought solaris was a unix flavor.”

    1. Did someone say it wasn’t? Hmmmm?

    2. You were thinking. I approve of that. Do plenty of thinking whenever you’ve the chance and it will become a habit. It will get easier and easier in time until eventually a day may come when it can be performed without great pain.

  5. TIHZ_HO says:

#5 Why are you always so…well…how to put it…nicely…so..”I-know-everything-and-you-know-nothing” all the time.

I am NOT looking for another round of rhetoric but gee….maybe YOU ought to try a little ‘cooking sherry’ and chill.

If pedro didn’t know Solaris is a form of Unix hey why not just tell him a little about it, you might even add that OS X is based on Unix – this is considered by many as an important difference between Windows and OS X.

This gets respect, and I think this gets to you that people don’t seem to respect you with the comments you make.

Well that is what I think anyway for what its worth – hope I am wrong.

    Cheers

  6. Lauren the Ghoti says:

Nope. pedro was being sarcastic, as per his usual. And I was giving him the needle, as per usual. We do that…

T_H, these people, including you and I, are not people, we are words on a screen. Those words only reflect a portion of the personality of the person writing them. Visual cues are absent. Voice inflection is absent. Economy is at a premium. Exchange of opinions, insights, discoveries, etc, takes place asynchronously. Diverse people in diverse places. I doubt if I’m telling you anything you don”t already know, but apparently you’re not bearing these things in mind. A calm demeanor works well and experience should teach you that nothing a stranger who really doesn’t know the complexity of your life and the various facets of your personality IRL can say to you should be able to anger you or disrupt your mood unless you want it to. Hell, half the amusement around here, for me anyway, is the wild misperceptions people develop about others, as you have with me.

It’ll not do you a bit of good if you’re going to try apply the customs of personal face2face interaction to an entirely different venue – and when you do, you lose some of what makes this kind of communication unique. A much wider variety of people interact in places like this than do so IRL, save for fairly rare events.

In contrast to your local pub, instead regard a place like this more like the cantina scene in Star Wars – without the ability to harm one another.

Leave the parlor psychoanalysis to those who do it for a living. If you quit taking idle verbal sparring and wisecracking as violations of cocktail-party protocol, you’ll be on your way to achieving serenity of spirit and unity with the cosmos. 🙂

Most people never even post… me, I pontificate. It’s what I do. Take it or leave it, learn something from it or tell me I’m a smug, pedantic asshole. What’s the diff? We’re just people and we’re all gonna be dead sooner or later. I prefer to enjoy myself in the interim.

There’s more I could say, but that’s enough OT philosophizing for one thread… Chill out and have a laugh, read the Bible or something. Or a Mac brochure, there’s a good chap.

  7. Lauren the Ghoti says:

….and after all that, I passed smooth over what I started out to say; TIHZ_HO, please note the tone of pedro’s comment. Do not take it literally. Then note the tone of my reply – have you never watched Monty Python’s Flying Circus? Then you would be blissfully unaware of how “silly” and “very silly” are tossed around in their skits. Drollery and absurdist humor. I went on, you failed to notice, to make a rather dry, elaborate insinuation about pedro’s intellect – the mock-formal tone is a giveaway that it is in jest. Go have a couple drinks of cooking sherry and come back. It’ll all be much clearer. 😉

  8. hhopper says:

    Lauren you pontificating bastard!

  9. Lauren the Ghoti says:

    THAT’s the spirit!!

  10. Lauren the Ghoti says:

TIHZ_HO – have you ever seen any of Clifton Webb’s Mr. Belvedere films? If not, you’ve truly missed out. Unfortunately they’re rather hard to come by. If you’d’ve seen Mr. Belvedere, you’d grasp my schtick…

  11. TIHZ_HO says:

#7 Ok this what you guys do

Ok I understand where you are coming from – I find myself pontificating as well on topics I am passionate with – so there should be no double standard.

Yes, we are not people we are words on screen – and many think this anonymity is acceptable even great – to be a Walter Middy.

Leave the parlor psychoanalysis to those who do it for a living.

No, I was simply remembering there are people on the other end just like me typing away.

    Thanks for your thoughts anyway.

    Cheers

  12. TIHZ_HO says:

My computer starts up with an amended version of “Liberty Bell” march ending of course with the fart.

Thanks again Lauren taking the time for your explanations – and that is sincere.

    You pontificating bastard! 😀

    I got it!

    Cheers

  13. Lauren the Ghoti says:

Then you’ll remember Election Night? With the Silly Party and the Very Silly Party? I troll for fellow fans by slyly slipping (slometimes) the occasional Pythonism (or Fawltyism) into my rants & abuse and seeing if anyone picks up on ’em…

  14. ECA says:

IM STILL waiting for Parallel processing to be released to the consumer.
Its been around ALONG time, and it still hasnt come around.
Even the NEW intel Duo, has been found NOT using 1 of the chipsets..

I THINK'(DUH) that MS is holding Intel BACK…
Intel makes ALOT of money selling chips that only work for windows..
Opps wrong wording… CHIPS that MS programs for ONLY…
These folks at MS havent had to do any real programming except on Intel.
Ms made the OS, MS made the programming language, MS made the mistakes.. And Intal is paid to make a chip that PROGRAMMING from MS will work with. ITS BACKWARDS…

Anyone into Buying out the Sun chips and boards, and making our OWN corp?? If we can make the machines for under $1000, I think we can get a good start.

  15. undissembled says:

John… I work for the ND State and all we use is HP laptops. The gave us the best price when compared to Dell. Could be the same for other contracts.

  16. TIHZ_HO says:

    #16 Apparently nothing….

Although, have to admit, it was a weird sight watching you talk about something other than mac.

    It was at that wasn’t?

    Cheers
