Berkeley Congresswoman Barbara Lee, Part of the Problem

OPEN FORUM / Oakland’s deadly denial — Excellent op-ed about the Black Muslim Bakery behind the murder of a local black reporter in Oakland.

My hometown is Oakland. It’s a tough city, but for too long it has appeased a small band of thugs from Your Black Muslim Bakery.

To my bewilderment, these punks bamboozled the Oakland establishment by conning it with blather about religion and neighborhood empowerment. They are neither pious nor neighborly. Their game is intimidation, and they have played it well, to the shame of my city. And one of them confessed to killing reporter Chauncey Bailey for doing his job.

This happened five blocks from my house. Five blocks, where there are now flowers and flickering candles in a memorial.

Where were our leaders? Apparently intimidated. CBS 5 showed astonishing video of these knotheads, doing military drills, turning in unison on command – pathology on display…

The offices of Mayor Ron Dellums and Rep. Barbara Lee, D-Oakland, offered to help the bakery when it filed for bankruptcy. A Lee spokesman told The Chronicle: “Congresswoman Barbara Lee is on record supporting the bakery as a community institution.”

Would bloggers have confronted the Black Muslim Bakery? I don’t think so.

Most bloggers are opinion machines… not journalists.

  2. Yes, I thought the comment was gratuitous too.

Podesta? Come out, come out wherever you are.

I very much look forward to hearing your unique mixture of Marxist propagandizing, red herrings, straw men and ad hominem about how white people are responsible for this situation.

i missed something along the way…. I have been told over and over that muslims are peace loving folks but, i everything I hear or read about them indicate that they are tyranical goons. Which is it?

  5. moss says:

I admit I know a number of peace-loving Muslims. In my neck of the woods, mostly Sufi.

Realize these charlatans in Oakland are not affiliated with any nationwide Muslim organization. Strictly local hustlers. All the more reason why “local” politicians in the Black community should have known better.

Why do you guys hate on Muslims so much.

  7. Jägermeister says:

#6 – MikeN – Why do you guys hate on Muslims so much.

Don’t sound like a newbie, MIkeN… you’ve been around for long enough to know the sincere love people here has for religion in general and Christianity in particular.

  8. Podesta says:

As the invariably astute Moss already stated, the Bakery Muslims are a splinter group not associated with the Nation of Islam, Sunni, Shiite or Sufi sects. The current crop joined long after the godfather, Yusuf Bey, was kicked out of the NOI decades ago. In recent years, the Bakery was no more a bakery than its members are really Muslims. It had become a staging area for crimes and a crash pad, along with several houses the group owns. The financial empire Bey had built, through both legal and illegal means, fell apart quickly after his death in 2003.

The support of the Bakery miscreants by local police, city and county officials over the years has been plain old quid pro quo. The Bakery ‘security company’ virtually locked down some poor neighborhoods with their approval. Rep. Lee clearly has yet to get the wake-up call that the game is over. There is nothing for her or anyone else to gain from supporting that ‘community institution’ now that the fecal material has encountered the air circulation device.

But, let’s not kid ourselves. Similar arrangements exist with miscreants in many cities and counties. Many a Southern pol would not be in his position without support of groups such as The League of the South, Council or Conservative Citizens, Sons of Confederate Veterans, etc. Ties between the Mafia and big city pols were important for decades. (Not so incidentally, Rudolph Guiliani still has such links, through Bernard Kerik. And, then, there is the Catholic priest accused of child molestation he has kept on his payroll for years.)

What needs to occur is examination and revelation of politicians’ associations with dubious persons everywhere. And, yes, it is journalists who should take the lead.

For people who want to know more about the plague of the Bakery bunch, I highly recommend reading Chris Thompson’s 2002 articles in the East Bay News:.

I may have met Chauncey Bailey through my friend the late Robert Maynard, owner of the San Francisco Examiner, years ago. His loss will be widely regretted.

Isn’t there one of these “bakeries” in the Oakland airport?

Another smooth move by the TSA. Give a parimilitary, radical, islamic group unfettered 24 hour access to an international airport.

All of this political correctness is going to get a couple thousand more Americans killed before much longer.
