A group of investigators of the University of Heidelberg has published a controlled study on a new modality of treatment based on internet chat, in the July issue of Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics. This study investigated the effectiveness of group therapy delivered through an Internet chat following inpatient treatment.
The low dropout rate and the high session attendance supported the expectation that this novel offer met patients’ needs, and thus, opens a new avenue for the optimization of care for patients with mental disorders.
Just think of the increase in income potential? Wow.
God… I hate Internet Chat…
I type from the time I wake up till I go to bed… Do I really want to type and read for therapy too?
What if I’m depressed because I crave human contact? How will group chat help me?
I used to be such a champion of the Internet, but more and more I feel like a Latter Day Clifford Stoll. (Only without the working understanding of physics)
That’s funny. I thought this was exactly what we’re doing here.
Tell me about it. Work on a PC all day, go home check a half dozen e-mails, etc. Check tech boards, read political crap, etc. etc.
(Sometimes my therapy is to come here and tell liberals they’re wrong though. ๐ )
#3 – But they aren’t… and that’s why it doesn’t work ๐
#4…OFTLO….and believeing that is why you NEED the therepy. ๐
OK, if this is turning into a Right is wrong discussion, and it is, I’ll try a new book recommendation. This is one from the heartland. The author is a Kansan and is trying to explain why the red states are really actively voting against their own self-interest. I just started the book, but am finding it highly informative and entertaining thus far.

There’s also a paperback version, but bestbookbuys didn’t find it.
OK,
I was born with an interesting handicap…(to say the least)
discovered in about 1820…Discussed and cataloged in about 1880…
then as medical information was VERY hard to move around and didnt move very fast…. It had a few different names, and diagnose was HARDLY ever standardized, Never REALLY looked at, just alot of pictures from the past showing HOW it manifested.
In 1998, a DOCTOR, had a son, and figured he needed to look into this.
He found almost NOTHING. So he did a study.
ALSO in the 1998, a few persons with this condition, made there OWN web sites, and People Gather’d to discuss the condition.
A group was made(4 of them, in truth) on Yahoo, and we now have over 600 persons and estimate that there are probably 6-10,000 NOT in our lists… This condition has a 1/10,000 chance of random generation(spontaneous mutation from Normal persons).
the Condition is called…Nail Patella Syndrome.
And our groups have gather ALL our information and knowledge to DECIDE HOW to treat this condition…We have compared what has/was done in the past, and WHAT WORKED…And What Didnt and may have made things WORSE, and maybe Unrepairable.
doctors in the NEAr past were Hit or Miss, and VERY little follow up, ANd no Documentation that could get to OTHERS that Delt with Patients that had the same condition..
As, MOSt of the Surgery, HAd to be done when a person was Young, and the parents didnt KNOW what to do, MOST of us were subjects to ALOT of experiments…
The condition is mostly Bones in the legs and arms, being malformed, and tendons and muscles, and Kidneys, Glocoma and a few other things..
The Doctor mention’d above, that had a child with the condition…Found Many things about this condition that have been placed int he medical journals…FINALLY…
but our group is the Main #1 resource, of WHAT DONT WORK for this condition.
Yes, Forums and Chat, can help.
I have to support ECA on the usefulness of chat in many areas – it is, let’s face it – a positive facet of the globalization enabled by the Web.
My family went through comparable experiences with my late brother-in-law whose irreversible terminal illness led my sister to a support group which – in practice – led to medical breakthroughs which will probably help sick folks in the future and wouldn’t have been possible as early on without the network online.
I don’t doubt that Eid’s post is basically a reflection of (1) our common boredom with folks’ fanaticism about socializing on the Web – not having a life separate – and (2) let’s face it, American shrinks have almost as low a reputation as American lawyers and politicians.
#6 – Do NOT turn this serious.
#4 – I am required to tell you you’re wrong about that. ๐
9,
I can stay out of it…Unless you want HELP…
I love Idiot BAIT…
