Dress code for the next dance party
Iran’s drive to enforce Islamic morals netted revellers from Britain and Sweden after police swooped on a “satanic” concert organised over the internet.
Police arrested 230 people and seized drugs, alcohol and 800 illicit CDs after raiding the event in Karaj, 12 miles west of Tehran. Those arrested included young women in skimpy and “inappropriate” clothing, officers said.
Authorities last month doubled the number of officers deployed on morals patrols. Police have been instructed to arrest young men with “western” hairstyles. Those arrested are released only after giving the names of their barbers and making signed commitments to get hair-cuts. They then have to return to the police station to show their new hairstyles.
Coppers and morality stitched together. A natural pairing.
“Police have been instructed to arrest young men with “western” hairstyles. Those arrested are released only after giving the names of their barbers and making signed commitments to get hair-cuts. They then have to return to the police station to show their new hairstyles.”
Daaaaaaamn……….Thats fucked up.
Change some wording and isn’t this what happened at the RNC convention in New York a few years ago (2004)???
For some reason that picture reminds me of Carousel. (Logans Run ref).
This should be enough of a reason for Bush to liberate the oppressed masses of Iran.
#2 – You’re pretty angry, aren’t you?
Not me, just beating others to the punch… I actually have donated to Giuliani’s campaign.
As a proud American, I am very wary of how many people who post comments here are so naive to believe that this sort of oppression could not happen on our shores.
Rest assured that there are many, many voices in American government on both sides of the aisle that want very much to control the media — ostensibly to protect you from sex, violence, copyright infringement., terrorists, and other boogeymen.
They want your guns, too. And they don’t want to have warrants to take them from you.
Be afraid of these men and women, and don’t let them dismantle the blueprints of the Republic that has made us the wealthiest nation the world has ever known.
#3 – Now that you mention it… 🙂 I watched that movie a few weeks ago. Its cheesy, sure, but its actually much better than I remembered it.

I guess one man’s dance party is another extremist religious zealot’s Satanic ritual.
Man if they thought a rave was satanic, I would love to hear their interpretation of a Slayer concert. xD
#7 – Be afraid of these men and women, and don’t let them dismantle the blueprints of the Republic that has made us the wealthiest nation the world has ever known.
Whatever… I can see the wealth all around me… But I don’t know anyone who has any of it.
I don’t disagree that there are those who would plummet this nation into a dark age. But if you want to capture my heart, don’t try the “wealthiest nation” line on me. I know that I’m not in the club and I’m not stepping up to protect the club.
#10 I agree that the gap between rich and poor is rapidly expanding as a direct result of Republican financial policy, which overtly favors those that already have money by allowing them to multiply their funds in ways that were previously taxed more heavily, which in turn allows them to pay more for housing, etc. driving up the cost of living for everyone else.
However having said that, i still stand by my belief that freedom of speech and privacy rights all conspire to empower the citizenry to chase their dreams and that is how new wealth and new jobs are created. The right to bear arms keeps the government in check to a symbolic degree.
think about it: if you’re into proselytizing a particular religion, and you could mandate acceptance of your religion, why wouldn’t you?
…and when the bible thumpers finally destroy the american constitution, you’d be foolish not to expect them not to just like mullahs issuing fatwas, etc.
wake up america!
12.
Yup, soon freedom of speech will be abolished, and I will be attending illegal Mindless Self Indulgence concerts in abandoned bunkers.
w00t!
#13 HA! look, all i’m saying is that in countries like England where there is a state-sponsored religion, not being a member is decided set-back socially and economically and i don’t want that sort of crap happening here (btw, you have a flyer for that rave? HAHAHAHAHA)
#7 Todd Anderson, III “As a proud American…”
Is there any other kind of American? I don’t know of anyone from any other country that starts a statement like that. Its that attitude that rubs the wrong way – sorry for being rather blunt.
“They want your guns, too. And they don’t want to have warrants to take them from you.”
That’s a problem? Jeezus, shouldn’t it be the other way around? Where is Jack Bauer when America needs him!
I’m not making that comment because I am liberal tree hugger – far from it. Are you suggesting that Americans need their guns just in case they ever need to throw out the US Government? When is that ever going to happen – if ever.
I live in Shanghai and there are no guns in China and there isn’t anywhere my wife cannot go and not feel threatened – wish I could say the same for the US. So…maybe, if there was a lot of guns here like America then China would be like America…no thanks!
Cheers
Once again the ignoramuses in the Iranian government do more to destroy their base of power than any hard power pressed by the U.S.
Logans run ah yes a future without minorities. That is no future at all.

I live in Shanghai and there are no guns in China…..
What are you talking about? I saw the pictures from Tienaman Square and there were plenty of guns. Oh yeh…….only the government had them.
#15 “I live in Shanghai and there are no guns in China and there isn’t anywhere my wife cannot go and not feel threatened – wish I could say the same for the US. ”
There is no political dissent, or even discussion, in China either.
#19 – That’s not exactly true… It’s just that dissent carries greater repercussions than it does here…
#20’s right, here in america it’s always been “freedom of speech, just watch what you say.”
An Iranian Moralism is what yo get when you mix ThoughtPolice with FashionPolice.
Shaken, not stirred.
Expect Bible thumpers to copy it and use the usual “It’s for the sake of the children!” excuse.
#18 BillM – “What are you talking about? I saw the pictures from Tiananmen Square and there were plenty of guns. Oh yeh…….only the government had them.”
Yes you are correct – that was China back then over 20 years ago and that ‘China’ doesn’t exist any more. Its like when I left America for 22 years and returned in 2005 and couldn’t believe what I saw – everything changed (and not for the good IMHO).
#19 Winston Smith – “There is no political dissent, or even discussion, in China either.”
ABSOLUTELY NOT TRUE! My brother in law is a Chinese government official and is a visiting professor who often lectures on how the Chinese communist party has failed and that change must happen. 20 years ago he who have been goose stepped away and shot!
Think about this: If China is still communist how to explain the (runaway) capitalism in China? Don’t hurt yourself.
Politically China different from America as it is a Totalitarian one party state. While America is a Totalitarian TWO party state – see the difference?
#20 That’s not exactly true… It’s just that dissent carries greater repercussions than it does here…OhForTheLoveOf
You are correct to a point OFTLO. The Chinese government realizes that there must be change for China to develop but not through uncontrolled change though demonstrations, revolution etc That is not the way it must happen. If China were to dismantle the entire government structure and open free elections what would happen? Utter chaos – the people would not know what to do and self interested parties would take control. Look back in history – China went through this all before after the end of the Qing Dynasty in 1911.
I do agree with all the comments of “America must wake up” as there is a sleeping giant that is waking up here and if America still wants to be the world’s economic power it had better start working on it.
Is America so far behind in the race it believes it is still leading?
Chinese people are focused on their future of development what are Americans focused on? Complaining? 😉
Cheers
#24 – TIHZ_HO,
Chinese people are focused on their future of development what are Americans focused on? Complaining?
We’re focusing on discussions about “family values” and about whether intelligent design is a theory. We use these types of discussions to distract us from the fact that voting for the people that claim to have the Right answers to such inane questions is really voting for allowing them to steal all the money from middle class citizens and give it to the very wealthy, no not the people earning a few hundred thousand a year. We want to give it all to the people making hundreds of millions a year, despite the fact that the same group already has billions in the bank (not a U.S. bank, of course, preferably a Cayman Island bank, with the balance denominated in Euros, or maybe just a whole boatload of triple tax free munis.)
While we’re at it, we’re also focusing on moving this country closer and closer to becoming a Christian fundamentalist theocracy.
Lastly, we are learning highly valuable life skills. Repeat after me young Americans:
Would you like fries with that?
I’ve been to satanic raves. I really hope that this was one of them because if there is a religious regime that needs an Adversary, this is it!
Rave on, party for the people!
#25 Misanthropic Scott
LOL – Now how can one argue with that? Well said!
“While we’re at it, we’re also focusing on moving this country closer and closer to becoming a Christian fundamentalist theocracy.”
Maybe just to make sure we can piss off and alienate the few that still respects America.
I think it is funny how Christian Americans somehow think they have originated Christianity – its theirs. Logically shouldn’t that be the preserve of the Italians? I mean, that is where it started after all – Rome, Holy Empire. Here is the Vatican, a Christian fundamentalist theocracy with the Pope but why didn’t spread out from that ground zero so to speak? Why aren’t there any European Christian fundamentalist theocracies?
Its happened with other Religions…like Islam, there was a ground zero that it dissipated out from – but not with Christianity (I’m meaning the hard core Christian fundamentalist theocracy) . Why is that?
Maybe its because two ingredients on their own are quite harmless and benign but when mixed together – better get running.
One ingredient is Christ, Jesus The, combined with the American attitude of…well you know…shake well….
Cheers
