A new poll reveals a clear leader in the Republican presidential race: nobody.

The AP-Ipsos survey shows nearly a quarter of Republicans are unwilling to back any of the top candidates — Rudy Giuliani, Fred Thompson, John McCain or Mitt Romney. And no one has emerged as the front-runner among evangelicals.

On the other hand, the Democratic race remains static. Hillary Rodham Clinton still holds a sizable lead over Barack Obama, even among black and Hispanic voters.

If only “None of the Above” was allowed in federal elections?

  1. Undissembled says:

That’s awesome! Who the f**k is Mitt Romney?

  2. Stars & Bars says:

Another reason for, “None of the Above”.
‘The Net’ shoves Ron Paul right down ABC’s throat !

  3. Misanthropic Scott says:

I think they should have added Ashcroft to the Republican poll. We’ve already seen him lose an election to a corpse. Watching him lose to Nobody would be almost as funny.

  4. Roc Rizzo says:

I sincerely wish that these “Ron Pauly Girls” would get a grip on reality.
They think that their candidate will change this country for the better.
He cannot do it without the help of his Party.
Nobody cannot do the work of the people without the benefit of one of the two major parties. It’s simply impossible.

IMNSHO, Ron Paul is another candidate who thinks that government can do no good, and will make darn sure that it will do no good, should he be elected. Why the heck do we elect people who want to destroy our government, for corporate rule is beyond me.

  5. Arpie says:

I guess “none of the above” is the preferred voter choice, as shown by a near 40% voter turnout… so Nobody is the president with a clear victory from about 60% of the people.

  6. Smith says:

How odd, a poll story without posting the poll questions or results. Are we just supposed to take the reporter’s word? Was one of the polling options really “none of the above” or was it “undecided”? If it was “none of the above,” then what was the response rate on the Democratic side?

I suppose this is what passes as “unbiased” reporting by MSNBC.

  7. OhForTheLoveOf says:

#5 – I’m with. Ron Paul is nothing more than the right’s loonbat answer to the left’s loonbat Dennis Kucinich.

But a loonbat is a loonbat.

  8. Pmitchell says:

I guess they forgot that the democratic party has no front runner either, but then that might sound like all the politicians are idiots and the liberal left wing media would not the public to think that the democrats are as screwed up as the republicans

  9. Misanthropic Scott says:

Here’s the detailed poll for any that don’t like the MSNBC reporting. Scroll to page 9 of 13 for the results of this particular question and the details. The comparable percentage among Dems was 13% showing a clear lead for any of clinton, obama, or gore over none or don’t know/not sure.

  10. Angel H. Wong says:

They know they are going to lose the next elections no matter what they do PLUS the next president is going to spent the next 4 years patching up ALL the damage Bush Jr has done, why do you think they are acting nasty to everyone who is not white?

  11. Jeff says:

I wish they would put this on the Ballot.

I have voted for the above, but I do so without supporting there platform, they are just the best of the worst, do not use my vote to justify your platform or to say you have a mandate to push your platform through.

We need to be able to let politicians know that they got our vote but not our support. Then you can make voting mandatory like the census.

  12. Joe says:

Funny, division of church and state! You americans are just living in a dream world. Your “democracy” is fake, you get the prez thats not elected (Bush), you’ve got concentration camps (Cuba). Your Gov’t is a bunch of fashists (check the description in any good dictionary) Yeah I’m sure everyone on this planet is just waiting to get your form of democracy. Surely the people of Iraq are waiting on it.

I know I used harsh words in this post, and I actually love the U.S. (I lived thed for over eight years and I went back to W.Germany), but! you people need to take over YOUR country. Democracies can only work by the help of its people. GO get one.

    I love you all.

    Joerg

  13. iGlobalWarmer says:

#8 – There you go! They should join forces for the Paul/Kucinich ticket.

(In 2000 I almost made my own Bush/Gore lawn sign just to see if I could get someone to drive off the road while going “WTF!?!”… 😉 )

  14. Awake says:

If Republicans were to read Barak Obama’s “The Audacity of Hope” without knowing who wrote it, the support for ANY Republican candidate would dwindle to virtually nothing. Republicans would be clamoring for this individual to run for President. It’s too bad that most Republicans can’t look beyond party loyalty, regardless of what the party has become to represent. Never mind getting over the issue of race or gender.

It is interesting to compare the candidate list of both parties. On the one side we have a slate of all white men that seem to believe in nothing but their way (and pine for the ways of the past), and the other slate we have a woman, a black man, a hispanic man and a few white men, all of which seem to want to break with the past and find new ways for the future. Quite a difference.

  15. Deinonych says:

#13: The US is not a democracy – it’s a federal republic just like Germany. But, you knew that already, I’m sure.

  16. Smith says:

#10 — Thanks for posting the poll link.

In answer to my own question: No, we cannot take the word of the reporter nor MSNBC. Only 8% of Republicans responded “none of the above.” Not the “quarter” reported. Clearly a biased lie on the part of MSNBC.

The also reported, “And no one has emerged as the front-runner among evangelicals.” Now why would they say that when the poll didn’t ask envangelicals who they would support?

But you folks go right on swallowing the BS spouted by the media. Don’t bother to think for yourselves or question anything that supports your ideology.

#13 – You comment seemed to be very similar to this link:

  18. iGlobalWarmer says:

#16 – I highly doubt that. Obama spends a lot of time fretting over the inherent inequities of capitalism. Forcibly “remedying” inequities is something many would find terrifying.

I couldn’t find the quote I wanted, but I found this:
    http://libertyunbound.com/archive/2007_05/walsh-obama.html
to be a well reasoned dissection of the book. I will admit that Obama has a lot of charisma – but beyond that – I don’t know.

What we really need is some kind of viable 3rd party.

  19. OhForTheLoveOf says:

    #21 – Loonbat

  20. OhForTheLoveOf says:

#22 – Forcibly “remedying” inequities is something many would find terrifying.

And using the word “Forcibly” is something that many might find misrepresentative.

It seems that those who oppose social responsibility and the goal of an even starting line are simply terrified that somebody else might catch a break somewhere in their long, slow, arduous life, that they themselves aren’t gonna get.

I don’t know why your side gets so worked up. The 0.000062% of your tax dollar that goes to help someone isn’t going to be the difference between getting the GasHog 6000 with all the options or having to sacrifice power windows.

  21. Sea Lawyer says:

#5, Even Paul has said that his view of government exists in a “perfect world” scenario. He has been quite clear that, if he were to be elected, his goal of moving people to be more liberty minded and less dependent on government would have to be a very gradual process.

#8, it must hurt your brain that Paul has managed to garner as much support as he has. People may not all agree with the extent of his small government message, but he certainly hasn’t progressed to the state of simply being a joke, as Kucinich has.

  22. Sea Lawyer says:

    [Duplicate post. – ed.]

  23. Sea Lawyer says:

#24, no, you really don’t get it at all.

  24. iGlobalWarmer says:

#24 – but I just did the math on another thread. ALL of my tax bill is subsidizing the cost of gas. 😉

  25. OhForTheLoveOf says:

#25 – but he certainly hasn’t progressed to the state of simply being a joke, as Kucinich has.

He has… But whatever. I’m sure if you were a different stripe you’d say the same thing with the names swapped. But like it or not, both are irrelevant. Ralph Nader is more important than those two guys, if only because he has a greater legislative record than both guys combined and never served a day in office.

#26 – No… I do get it. There is a faction in society who believes in a policy of “Fuck you, I got mine” and they’ll cast scorn upon anyone who’s ideas are aimed at social equality, because a equality means some of you lose a little bit so that most of us can gain a lot.

  26. Jeff says:

Moonbats, wingnuts….I love America (it is so entertaining)!

  27. Mister Mustard says:

    >>It hasn’t mattered since FDR.

We haven’t had such an asshole in office since well BEFORE FDR. Nixon was smart but evil; Reagan was good-hearted but stupid. Dumbya is evil _AND_ stupid. So now it matters.

And, love ’em or hate ’em (and I’m sure you hate them all), at least people can get a little bit excited about the Democratic candidates. Or even a magically-appearing 3rd-party candidate. The “grand” old party, though, has lost all of it’s self-proclaimed grandeur. Sad, wrinkly, and old, just like its members.

  28. Sea Lawyer says:

#29, heh, as we are all inherently not equal, we cannot be made to be equal; and it is foolishly naive to believe that some politically expedient, but poorly thought out government program is going to undue this basic truth of nature. But keep trying, maybe someday one of these grand progressive experiments will eventually work, and then we can all be equal as serfs.

As I said, no you don’t get it. Maybe some people just view equality as having an even set of rules to live our lives under, and not some artificial scheme where equality is manufactured through government inequity.

  29. hhopper says:

    According to The Urban Dictionary:

loonA Psychotic person. Short for lunatic.

batAcronym for Big Ass Titties. Generally referring to a girl with large breasts.

So I guess a loonbat is a psychotic woman with big boobs. 🙂

  30. Stars & Bars says:

Another loonbat? Don’t think so! As a guest on Conan O’Brien, Actress Janeane Garofalo Blurts ‘9/11 Was an Inside Job’. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c3KcT_LVM0E
