It’s an old story. A culture clash between city folk and country folk, or in this case, ones with cars and those who ride astride a four legged beast. But just how do you put a diaper (or nappy as the Brits call ’em) on a donkey without it kicking you silly?
Anger at Kenya donkey nappy plan
Donkey owners in the Kenyan town of Limuru are up in arms over an order from the municipal authorities that their animals must wear nappies.
The council said the measure would come into effect on 16 July to ensure the town’s streets are kept clean.
But recent press coverage and outrage from the town’s residents has led the authorities to put their plans on hold.
“If we have to put nappies on our donkeys, soon they will say our cows need them too,” one donkey owner said.
How do you put a diaper on a donkey?
Very carefully!!
Horse drawn “Calesas” in the Philippines has a poop basket (a clothlike hanging swing) located just behind the butt of the horses. This allows the horses to do their business anytime/anywhere… I would think that even the horse drawn carriage in NY city would also have something similar… Putting on a nappy/diaper on a donkey would not work as since the poop would almost always overflow since they have more poop than babies.
“If we have to put nappies on our donkeys, soon they will say our cows need them too,” one donkey owner said.
This gentleman seems to have a firm grasp of the bureaucratic mindset.
Haha…..nappy…..
I’m never using the word “diaper” again in life
Ah, but do you know why the Kenyan villagers should be talking to the residents of Great Yarmouth, UK?
See blogolob for the answer!
#2, Roland, the horses here in nyc do have poop catchers attached to their rears. I was in Central Park yesterday and noticed something else about the horse carriages. They share the same asphalt roadway in the park as the cars but they stay to the right. If you’re ever in Central Park notice the groove that has been dug in by the constant wear of horse hooves pounding on the ground. The horses manage to walk all fours into it. It’s somewhat amusing that such a large animal is traipsing along inside a groove instead of stepping out of it.
Cows in diapers.. Why does the first thought that I get is New Hampshire?
I would comment on the idea that CARS output MORe polution then the Donkey… Make it Equal… And install Nappies on the Cars also..
#8, ECA,
You are almost right. Car’s pollution is all gaseous and dissipates in the air. Donkeys and horses leave solid matter behind them. This attracts and breeds flies and may harbor dangerous bacteria. When there is enough of it it can also smell quite “fresh”.
We aren’t talking just a few animals here, but a lot of them.
