Re #31 – Ohhh we have one of those rare instances where Fusion and I agree on something. 😉

(Completely – I even like to play keep the telemarketer on the line too!)

#32 – Congratulations on your personal growth 😉

  3. RBG says:

Maybe you don’t understand Quebec French because it is derived from the original aristocratic French that wasn’t affected by the French revolution that resulted in the peasant French – the equivalent of cockney English – becoming dominant.

35 – It’s not just me that doesn’t understand the Canadian “french”, it’s the entire nation of France, and most of the rest of the francophone world.

While the Canadian french may have been DERIVED from the Ancien régime (what you call “aristocratic”), over the past 200-300 years it has become an unrecognizeable patois, bastardized by the illiterate, the uneducated, and the ignorant. Sort of like Chaucerian English gone bad.

  5. RBG says:

    36. Oh, like what the British think of American English.

  6. RBG says:

    36. I would expect modern English would be considered Chaucerian English gone bad by those who used it.

Likewise, the aristocratic, social and political system established in France from (roughly) the 15th century to the 18th century under the late Valois and Bourbon dynasties (what you call “Ancien régime”) would have been expected to certainly experience some similar degree of language evolution. Sort of like Le français de l’Ancien Régime gone bad.
