Curiously this is posted here and there with numerous references to the fact that this is at Disneyworld but no specifics at where? Looks like it should be at Epcot. I’m sure a reader will know. It’s quite fun, but apparently the cars are all rigged for various trick turns.

Found by Ed Casati who adds, “Looks like a typical Friday night on any Italian street.”

I’ve been to this show. They actually explain that they seamlessly switch in a backwards car for the parts where the “hero” is driving in reverse, complete with a dummy in the “front” that looks like the real driver.

I saw a “behind the scenes/making of” type documentary about this a year or two ago on Discovery/Learning Channel/History Channel (one of those type cable networks). The show was about the tech that goes into modern amusement parks (roller coasters, stunt shows like this, the science of moving the crowds along). For the life of me, I cant remember which park it was, or where I saw the show, but I’m certain that someone out there will know the details. As for the cars, I’m not a car guy, but it was pretty darn impressive. Special engines, special tires, special frames – all so these little cars could do what looked like full sized stunts in a relatively small space. – Sorry i don’t have more specific details, i just wanted to throw in my two cents! ~ LB

This is the Lights, Motors, Action!™ Extreme Stunt Show locate at Disney MGM Studios.
From Disney.com “Get ready for extreme thrills as this full-throttle, high-octane live stunt spectacular comes roaring in from Disneyland® Resort Paris. Engines rev, tires screech and adrenaline kicks into overdrive as a series of highly orchestrated stunts, specially designed cars, motorcycles and jet skis and amazing pyrotechnics give you a behind-the-scenes look at how action stunts are created for the movies. “

Sure those aren’t six teenagers with N (for new driver) stickers on the bumpers?

Sure those aren’t teenagers with N (for new driver) stickers on the rear windows?

Damn, I thought those were miniature cars until the guys walked out right at the end.

I saw the show in Orlando at the MGM Studios theme park. I think the car is the European Opal. There are a several “hero” cars that drive in and out as the action goes on. It happens so quickly that you don’t notice most of the changes in cars. It is worth the time to watch.

“they seamlessly switch in a backwards car”

That’s makes the backwards ramp jump seem almost effortless. Makes sense.

Reminds me of the movie “Hooper” with Burt Reynolds where he was driving a pickup backwards on the Pacific Coast Highway at 55 mph while drinking Coors.

They had flipped the body around 180 degrees for that one, too. You could even see the back wheels on the truck steering left and right but I am sure few people noticed. If I recall, you could see the guy in the other seat driving the truck.

I wonder if Coors would sponsor that movie today.

My Daughter works at Disney/MGM and knows a couple of the Stunt drivers. Real intense. Lot of neat little tricks. the cars are built from the ground up with special weights, placements of engines, special transmissions never done before. and a couple of different cars/drivers behind the scenes modified for each trick.
