June 13, 2006—Perhaps not since the Cowardly Lion has an animal’s appearance been so at odds with its attitude.
On June 4 a black bear wandered into a West Milford, New Jersey, back yard, was confronted by a 15-pound (7-kilogram) tabby cat … and fled up a neighbor’s tree. Hissing at the base of the tree, Jack the clawless cat kept the bear at bay for about 15 minutes, then ran him up another tree after an attempted escape.

I’ve learned to stay away from my cat when she gets “that look” in her eyes, you know, the one that says “I’m about to go into a complete tizz.” If you’ve ever had one run up your blue jeans and jump on your shoulders, you’ll learn quickly. I wonder if the bear had a similar previous experience? Great photo, Hop. 🙂

Guess these two have neither read the rule book on animal behavior nor have they figured out the concept of size. This is why I love watching wildlife. The behavior is always interesting. I’m not sure if house cat qualifies as wildlife, but this one seems to be stretching the definition.
If you haven’t seen it, it’s not old.

while i could see this as just another example of how cats are evil and why i’ll never have one … i have to admit, this is coming off more bad ass than anything else and i have to give that damn cat some mad props.
