A Smoke Angel from Airplane Flares – Picture by Russell E. Cooley IV, USAF: The cloud pictured above resulted from a series of flares released by an air force jet over the Atlantic Ocean in May. The jet that released the flares, a C-17 Globemaster III, is seen on the right. The flares release smoke and the resulting pattern is sometimes known as a smoke angel. The circular eyes of the above smoke angel are caused by air spiraling off the plane’s wings and are known as wingtip vortices.
Vortices? Flares? Air Force planes? UFOs? Dvorak baiting Apple fans? Blasphemy, this is just another proof of the existence of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

Some of those photos of the planes breaking the sound barrier, especially the first, look like the plane is wearing a keepah (yarbulke) and mini skirt. What do you think is the significance? A sign that reformed Judaism is correct?
I don’t know what’s funnier, Dvorak’s hack editors continual going to the Apple well to bump up the hit count, or their inability to stop… showing just how much they worship the Cult of Jobs.

I flew general aviation aircraft out of a joint use civil/military field, and wing tip vortices were the bugaboo, able to flip a small aircraft on it’s backside without warning.
Well, I can see why the FSM has such a following – you can SEE “him” – christianity is fundamentally flawed that way, its deity is some invisible man in the sky
The caption for this picture is misleading. The image was taken from the aircraft that dropped the flares, which likely to be similar to the aircraft which in the rear formation and yet to reach the airspace where the smoke is located. If you look closely at the aircraft in the picture it is flying towards the camera and has yet to reach the smoke. Here is another way to think about it. Where is the person holding the camera sitting? Are they sitting on the nose of a plane with without a wind screen about to fly into that mess? Or are they sitting in the tail with the rear door open looking back at the smoke they just dropped?
