I think it’s time I sue somebody for not covering my every activity. It’s costing me thousands a week in appearance fees, etc. What, I’m not worth covering? And Paris and the rest are?
A Beverly Hills boutique has settled its lawsuit against Us Weekly over claims the magazine ignored the shop in its coverage of the famous and their spending habits, an attorney for the store said.
Glenn Feldman, an attorney for the boutique Kitson and owner Fraser Ross, declined to disclose the settlement’s terms on Friday, citing a confidentiality agreement.
The lawsuit filed in September on behalf of Ross claims Us Weekly intentionally omitted any mention of the store in its issues because of a legal conflict, and refused to mention the shop when publishing pictures of celebrities shopping there.
The dearth of publicity was costing the shop $10,000 a week, the lawsuit claimed.
Hey for the likes of Lindsey Lohan and Britney Spears this is serious business! Without non-stop Taco-bell photo-ops, how on earth would these people hang on to their tenuous celebrity status?
Like many of these totally-stupid sounding cases there seems to be a little more behind it than we are getting in the story. Even taking the “un-revealed” details into account, it seems a heck of a stretch.
They also had a lawsuit against the magazine saying that the magazine held a party at the boutique and didn’t pay the bill. That too was settled and the details are not revealed. So it looks like there is a history. And I have to suspect that this history includes making sure they mentioned the boutique in their stories – a.k.a. product-placement type ads but written into the stories rather than purchased in separate ad “bubbles.” That is probably why the settlements are not disclosed. As if US Magazine were able to claim journalistic integrity anyway.
The boutique does have a website where they sell gift-shop items at what seem to me to be more than vastly overpriced rates. Their cheap sunglasses (on the front page) were $250 and the pricier ones were $380. Looked like the kind I get for $10-$15.
You could get Victoria Beckham denims (full length jeans and shorts) for $200 to $250. Such a bargain. Anybody want to organize bus shopping trips to Target?
I am going to complain to my grandmother
I heard that all they were offered in the settlement from Us Magazine was the finger.
