A fatwa free-for-all in the Islamic world – International Herald Tribune — If you haven’t been following this it is wild stuff. What makes it even wilder is that fact that nobody seems to be able to stop it. Maybe those wanting a Shar’ia government should reconsider.

Meanwhile, this appears to be some sort of Muslim smear campaign. Unsure what to make of it.

First came the breast-feeding fatwa: It declared that the Islamic restriction on unmarried men and women being together could be lifted at work if the woman breast-fed her male colleagues five times. Then came the urine fatwa: It said that drinking the urine of the Prophet Muhammad was deemed a blessing.

For the past few weeks, the breast-feeding and urine fatwas have proved a source of national embarrassment in Egypt, not least because they were issued by representatives of the highest religious authorities in the land.

“We were very angered when we heard about the Danish cartoons concerning our Prophet,” wrote Galal Amin in the newspaper Al Masry Al Yom, referring to the 2005 publication of cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad that caused an international uproar. “However, these two fatwas are harming our Islamic religion and our Prophet more than the cartoons.”

    How’s this for an idea.
Go to New York City, and drop a Qur’an in a bucket of urine. I guarantee some bozo will call it art and put it in a museum. Maybe the National Endowment for the Arts will even provide grant money! It worked with the Crucifix.

I, for one, welcome our new lactating overlords.

I thought fatwa’s were seldom issued edicts from high authority—not advice to the clueless given out like candy. Well, the more cooks involved, the wierder the recipes will become. You know, the Muslims have a few things to learn from the Catholics.

There was no further explanation of Muhamed’s urine. How much of that could be left–or is there a practice of substantiation in the Muslim Religion? You know, the Muslims have a few things to learn from the Catholics.

The great arab scholars on this blog should be informative on these issues.

Once again I’m forced to ask: Do you actually read some of the items you post – or only the “good” parts?

“The ruling was mocked on satellite television shows around the region, and quickly condemned at home. He was suspended from his job, mocked in newspapers and within days issued a retracting saying it was a “bad interpretation of a particular case.””

What did one Muslim woman say to the other?

Does this make me look Fatwa?

  6. Todd Anderson, III says:

Well this should come as no surprise to anyone who belongs to any religion — religion’s rejection of critical thought in favor of blind faith is a recipe for all sort of madness.

  7. DieFundie says:

I’ll say it again-western religion comes from this region, with these nutjobs’ ancestors? And Aunt Bea is OK with that? LOL!

  8. Jonathan Fox says:

#6 I’m totally with you on that sentiment!

  9. Fahad says:

    #6 and #8

If you base your judgment on islam on only this , then you’re misinformed. “Critical thought” is the bases of islam. Check how critical clerics (the old real clerics, not the new fangled ones you find hyped in the media) are when it comes to the hadith (the saying of prophet mohammad).

  10. Angus says:

I’m as open minded as anybody, but for a holy man to declare this with a straight face makes me wonder if we live in the same world as the followers of Islam in the middle east.

#2, You made my day. Clearly a Kent Brockman, news anchor, Simpson’s reference, how appropriate!

    thats wacky

  13. morram says:

I can see a money making situation here. Round up all the sports players named Muhamed and collect their urine. Then trade it for oil.

  14. James Hill says:

Those crazy arabs. What will they come up with next?

  15. Todd Anderson, III says:

#9 I’m sure that by-and-large Islam, like any other religion does a fine job of answer the major conundrums of human existence such as “why do we exist?”, “where do come from?” etc. so that people can spend more of their time being productive members of society.

But the fact remains, all organized religions work on the premise that the words of the religious leaders — be they quoting from some prophet or scripture or whatever — are to be followed as law.

For example, in the religion of my upbringing, the Pope is considered to be infallible, and to wit, I have family that accepts his every word as though it comes straight from God.

So please understand that I am not singling out Islam. All I am saying is that if you have an unscrupulous or insane religious leader, those people who accept their teachings as law are going to get into trouble, or are going to cause trouble for other people. Just ask the survivors of Jonestown how crazy it can get.

It’s just how it happens. Sorry to point out the obvious.

Morally depraved, intrinsically corrupt, wantonly destructive, inhumane, selfish, wicked, censurable, mischievous, undesirable, bad, wicked, vicious, harmful, hurtful, prejudicial, depraved, discomforting, unpleasant, offensive, disagreeable, troublesome, painful. But enough about Michael Moore. Thankfully the rest of God’s chosen society is above really dumb ideas.

But Fahad which verses came from Satan?
