Poles will have to march to battle
Poland’s 1,200 troops assigned to NATO forces in Afghanistan will not achieve full combat readiness for up to several weeks due to stolen vehicle keys, the defense ministry said Thursday.
“We had been told a 10 percent theft rate was likely in convoys brought in from Pakistan, but we had not expected the spare car keys to go missing,” defense ministry spokesman Jaroslaw Rybak told news channel TVN24.
“We shall have to send away for spares, so it may take from several days to several weeks for our contingent to become combat ready.”
Tee hee.
The US is so fortunate to have alliances with countries – where you only expect 10 percent of your military hardware to be stolen.
Good thing American HumVees have no use for keys?
What nonsense! If they don’t want to maneuver and fight, just say so. Don’t leave the Canadians thinking they have allies when they don’t.

Canada is fighting this war, far more effectively than American troops and maybe most Canadian soldiers don’t know how to hot-wire a car, so maybe this really is an issue, if you care about your allies who are fighting and dying for the same things you purport to believe in.
At least they are fighting the Taliban and Al Queda, who attacked America while American troops are fighting Iraqis for some unknown reason.

That is true, to a certain extent. The War on Terrorism ought to be fought where the terrorists call home, which is under Taliban rule in Afghanistan. I have no idea why Americans are fighting and dying in Iraq.
Canada has lost (as of today) at least 55 troopers in Afghanistan since this war was declared, some of them killed by American bombs. Believe it or not, Canadians don’t find that to be a big deal. Canadians aren’t dying for you, they’re dying for freedom.

I would prefer to unbunch my knickers (much more comfortable) and appreciate what Eideard is chuckling about (and I mean no offense to Eideard) but I do know something about the people Eideard is chuckling about and the reliability of our Polish and Pakistanti allies.
People I happen to know personally are dying. That makes a difference to me and it isn’t very funny to me.

Up to several weeks my ass!! Bullshit! FED-Ex can have you some new ignitions or new keys there faster than that. If they dont want to deploy they should just say so. If they were really concerned with getting where they were going they could alter the vechicles in less time than this nonsense of an idea. This reeks of bullshit.
Maybe the iKeys got too close to their cell phones, and they’ll have to call India for tech support. That would take three weeks.

The Canadians are doing a great job. The unfortunate part is that Americans don’t know and don’t care. They alone saved the world from Germany, Italy, and Japan during WWII. They were the only troops in Korea.
American UN peace efforts can be counted on one hand and the number of casualties would require even fewer fingers.
Afghanistan is where the terrorists are. That is where the fight should be. We should all thank Canada for its unselfish contribution to the “War on Terror”.

#13, Mr. Fusion, distance from Bangladesh, India to Kabul, Afghanistan is roughly 1150 NM. What a rugged territory to overfly in a Cessna 310, but we could make it nonstop at 200 kts, in about 6 hours.
