Great post, and an excellent dissertation on the subject. It’s pathetic what we have allowed the bribeocracy to foist on us. Wouldn’t it be great if we could actually find and elect representatives to represent US in all this? Enough of them at the same time to make a positive difference in the way things are….

Aside from some presiduncial wannabe candidate stumping around that copyright should NEVER expire, there is serious business afoot to do away with public domain rights entirely. More than 80 percent of the works of the 20th century fall into the “orphaned” category. Traditionally if no one was on record as owning a copyright, they automatically entered the public domain. No more. Now trolls can come out of the woodwork and sue you if you try to use orphaned works. It happened to PBS when they ran that stunning series on the civil rights movement of the 1960s.
