Stay off grass.

An Ohio man has been sentenced to life in prison for shooting and killing a teenage neighbor who’d walked on the man’s carefully tended lawn.

Sixty-seven-year-old Charles Martin must serve 18 years before he can be considered for parole. The judge said he would urge that Martin never be considered for parole.

Martin was convicted last month of murder in the March 2006 shotgun killing of 15-year-old Larry Mugrage Junior, a high school freshman.

Martin told the court he was sorry the shooting occurred but said the teen knew how much he cared for his lawn and provoked him.

Martin was tried for aggravated murder but was convicted of murder, a lesser count, because jurors could not agree the killing was planned.

Phew! Had me worried for a minute. Thought John was busted for being Cranky.

    Trespassers will be composted!

  3. sdf says:

I don’t care if he provoked him, mooned him and then dry-humped his lawn gnomes – this loser can rot.

  4. Jägermeister says:

Make a video were you run over his yard with a tiller/cultivator… then have the old fart watch that every single day of his time in prison.

  5. joe says:

in his next life, larry won’t step on the guys grass.

  6. James Hill says:

Hopefully this crazy old man will get pardoned and take over as the Iraqi War Czar.

    Fucking fertilizer is expensive!

And who says evolution only applies to jocks? You also have to be smart enough to avoid things like this one.

  9. Nekkes says:

Once again. News like this, and much worse, keep coming from the US on a weekly basis and still a large group of people try to honestly say that gun control is baaaad and (the craziest idea of all) ubiquitous gun ownership would be ideal. Give me a break!

  10. Greymoon says:

Once again another lame argument for gun control. Maybe if the kid had a gun he could have defended himself from an idiot with a well manicured lawn.

You want a break? Ok, your theory is broken!

  11. OhForTheLoveOf says:

I just read the original thread that Hopper linked above… Man, what a bunch of scumbags we had posting in that thread. They practically cheered for the old guy shooting the kid.

Now, Greymoon comments that maybe the kid should have had a gun so he could have defended himself. Amazing.

I don’t know why it still amazes me after forty years, but I’m always in awe of how little actual compassion and concern there is for human life… And I just know that half the fucktards who joke blithely about this dead kid are also conservative pro-life advocates.

Culture of life? What a joke…

  12. Canucklehead says:

guns don’t kill. I’m sure this old geezer could have chased down this teenager and beat him to death with his bare hands.

  13. Greymoon says:

Hence the need to arm all children with handguns.

    Think about it.

“Why are you undoing my pants Father McMurphy?”
“Why little Timmy, this will just be our secret. You like secretes don’t you?”
Click, Bam – Little Timmy prevents child sexual abuse.

Little Susie is walking down the street. A car pulls up with a big dike lesbo in it. The dike offers Susie some candy and a fun ride to the ‘petting’ zoo.
Click, Bam – Little Susie save herself much humiliation and rids the world of another child abuser.

An old guy yells out, “GET OFF MY WELL TENDED LAWN PUNK”
Young Sam yells back, “YOU TALKIN’ TO ME YA OLD GEEZER?”
Old guy draws his weapon and takes aim.
Click, Bam – Young Sam defends his personal right to trample as he sees fit.

Another one bites the dust, and another one and another one, another one bites the dust.

  14. Greymoon says:

    #11
I was making an equally lame argument against gun control, amazing is it not? And also note that my characters in post #13 are fictitious. Oh for the love-Lighten Up.

  15. OhForTheLoveOf says:

Sorry Grey… After reading the entire original thread, I was rather desensitized to humor.

The casual relationship so many “humans” have with death and violence is saddening.

  16. TJGeezer says:

Give ’em all guns, I don’t care. So long as nobody gives a gun to JCD. Even the gun freaks have to know THAT would be insane.

  17. RMichael says:

What came out in the local news was that the kid was a monster, and his parents are wacko rednecks. They tortured that old man. The national news did not tell the whole story.

Yes, it is crazy to shoot a kid for walking on the grass, but that kid literally drove the old man crazy.

  18. chris says:

I think that the guy was 100% wrong for shooting him and it shouldnt have happened.

    BUT

#3 so this guy should let some punk kid do shit to him? yeah he shouldnt have shot him but its ok for some kid to mess with him?He is wrong for shooting but i dont care what the kid did, the kid was WRONG. I am sick of hearing about kids screwing with people who look, act and small like some wack job and then are shocked when they go nuts. The shooter is a wacko but it could have all been avoided if the kid stayed off the grass.

Both are wrong. The shooter for thinking guns solve anything and for the kid for stepping where he shouldnt have.

  19. tallwookie says:

    Gob Bless America

  20. Daniel says:

The gun did solve something–it solved that the kid shouldn’t walk in the old guy’s lawn. The kid isn’t going to do that again.

Guns solve things, that’s the problem sometimes. In this case, the old man solved a problem that shouldn’t have been solved with a gun.

  21. RBG says:

    9. I see what you’re getting at. We should encourage the alternative use of hunting crossbows because of the smaller carbon footprint. That wasn’t it?
    http://www.crossbow.com/

“Since the new gun registration program started in 1998, the U.S. homicide rate has fallen, but the Canadian rate has increased. The net cost of Canada’s gun registry has surged beyond $1-billion — more than 500 times the amount originally estimated.”
    http://www.americandaily.com/article/1340

All guns to be registered in Canada by the beginning of 2003.

Sept. 2006: Shooting rampage at a Montreal college leaves a woman and the shooter dead and 19 injured.

Conservative government begins to disassemble gun registration as a failure.

Given the proportional population, this little lesson should only cost the US 10 billion for the same thing.

  22. phil says:

guns solve lots of problems. sometimes they create new problems in the process.

  23. chris says:

    #20 and #22
    Daniel and Phil,
    you are correct. Good points.

  24. Brock says:

    Don’t mess with Ohio.

  25. KVolk says:

I guess the old guy didn’t know about the old rock salt in the butt solution which is a tad less lethal, but then maybe he wasn’t looking for nonlethal in which case don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time.

  26. sdf says:

#18, what are you trying to prove? That I support that idiot kid? HE WAS SHOT DEAD for cripes sake.

  27. chris says:

    SDF,
Yes he was but did the man go into his home and pull the trigger?
Did he stalk him and pull the trigger?
Did that man ask for any trouble?

    NO he didnt.

The boy was messing with him and driving him nuts.
STILL not a excuse as the man is a wack job but to say

“I don’t care if he provoked him, mooned him and then dry-humped his lawn gnomes – this loser can rot.”

says to me it dosnt matter what the boy did to the man he should rot.
    I say no.
the man should be in jail for the rest of his life yes but the boy isnt innocent. The parts about what the boy did to the man was lost in the fact a poor youth was killed.
A trouble maker who decided to, cuase no one was stopping him, terrorize a man.
So i should feel horrible that he was killed?

  28. Mr. Fusion says:

The kid pushed the wrong buttons and faced the consequences. The old man was driven to the point of despair by repeated provocations.

Sad way to end it all for both of them. Yup, rock salt might have only gotten the guy a few years instead of life.

  29. Matthew says:

There’s absolutely nothing you can say to defend this old prick. Sounds to me like he deserved to have his lawn ruined in the first place. And I bet this isn’t the first time he’s overblown a confrontation.

  30. Brian says:

    29-

Obviously you aren’t someone who’s had something you’ve cherished ruined constantly and had neighbors be actively aggressive in their harassment, or you yourself are that irritating neighbor who never tends their yard and begrudges those around you who do.

Not defending this guy in the least, but the kid definitely wasn’t innocent here, either.
