Apple has been hit with a class action lawsuit filed by MacBook and MacBook Pro owners unhappy with the quality of the displays on those notebooks.The suit, spotted by Engadget, accuses Apple of improperly playing up the capabilities of the displays for the MacBook Pros and MacBooks launched in the first part of last year.
For example, it notes that Apple advertised the MacBooks as capable of displaying “millions of colors” when they can only do that using a technique called “dithering.” Also, it points to complaints lodged by MacBook users on various Apple discussion boards about the “grainy” or “shiny” quality of their displays.
The plaintiffs claim that these display problems are not visible when they boot Windows XP on their Intel-based MacBooks and MacBook Pros, suggesting that Apple’s operating system is to blame. The suit was filed in San Diego County in the State Court of California.
If it’s software, Apple should be able to fix it before the suit gets settled.
And now they’re going to say their lawsuits are better than the ones thrown at M$ just because it’s OSX.

It’s not class action, they’re asking for it as part of their suit. The basis of their suit is that ‘people are complaining about it on user forums.’

Unfortunately, the frustrated fellow is right. Dvorak’s site is loosing it. I enjoy him much on cranky and on all the twit shows, but this site (which when i found it to be not solely kept up by devorak saddened me) has lost its unique attraction. i think i only come here because i’m devoted (or naive).
as for the mac screens, i thought that we all new that macs had a lower quality monitor. a slight dullness in the colors and loss of vibrant “ummph”. something we all accepted.
but i still love my macs, a pc just would not do what i need in video. I own pcs too and darned if i don’t have to restart it more than once a day. and comment #2 is funny. good one.
