Both teams are on the field at the same time, with one team running bases in the opposite direction. There really is a National Extreme Baseball League. They had their first game in Orlando last Saturday.

Stupid, just stupid.
Ditto, just ditto. [sigh]
This looks just as stupid and boring as regular baseball. If the players could throw the ball at the runner to get them out, that would be extreme and far more entertaining than this.
It’s extreme – it must be good.

This is the first step toward blurnsball, mentioned in Futurama.
It’s clear that Extreme Baseball is gonna do for baseball what the XFL did for football and SlamBall did for basketball, which is to say it will completely reinvent the sport and become a huge hit in its own right.
Honestly, I think they’re going in the wrong direction. Best I can tell, there’s only one offshoot sport that really caught on, and that’s Miniature Golf. If the batters had to hit the ball through a windmill, they might have something.
come on hooters sponsers this thing…
They have thier own airplanes…
airplanes!!!!
there is nothing you can do in the world to make baseball interesting.
#7 Hooters Air shut down.

No regular contact, no penalties, no guns, no constant mental stimulation, and hitting a pitched ball is the most difficult thing in all of sports…you’re right it sucks.
This is why I hate video games…too many kids have grown up pretenting to play ball rather than doing it. I won’t change your opinion, you’re entitled to it and and that’s fine, but I am currently teaching a dozen 10-year olds to play it well and to love it. I have never done anything more rewarding in my life.
BTW, the real extreme baseball is called slo-pitch softball.
#10, Olo, reminds me of a great bit by George Carlin, Baseball vs. Football. It’s still darned funny today.
Harrison, this one’s for you:

#5 you beat me to the blurnsball reference, you bastard!
There’s nothing wrong with real baseball. It doesn’t need to be extremed up. This is stupid.
“no constant mental stimulation”
is that an argument AGAINST my claim that baseball is uninteresting?
Anyone ever seen Idiocracy?
IT’S EXTREME! ITS WHAT YOU WANT!
BubbyRay – That’s one of my favorite Carlin bits.
Wondering what Blernsball is?
Everyone knows the rules for the “real” extreme baseball:
1. Swing and miss – chug a beer.
2. Get a base hit – chug a beer.
3. Pop-fly gets caught – chug a beer.
4. Home run – everyone chugs a beer.
5. Pitcher makes it to the 3rd inning without passing out – chug a beer.
7. 7th inning stretch: game finishes because no one remembered keep score – everyone goes out for beer.
sgf, nothing personal, it’s an argument that not all recreation needs to be like TV, video games, or the Internet. Baseball has a lot of subtlety, and there’s plenty of action if you’re AT the game or IN the game. But keep in mind that I’m old enough to have fond memories of watching baseball on the radio with Ernie Harwell in his prime. 🙂 And, that I grew up playing it almost constantly.
Baseball is boring… and this is extremely boring.
You want extreme? This is extreme! Just watch it all the way through. It is retarded, but interesting to see what people come up with these days.
NOT WORK SAFE, even though it is censored.

18. Yeah I loved it too as a kid. Grew up in St. Louis where the Cards kicked butt, played for six years and was pretty good. Now I put it on Sunday afternoon when I want to take a nap, unless of course their is a Golf Tournament on, nobody beats golf when it comes to sawing the ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ’s.
Change two things:
1. Both pitchers throw simultaneously so you might get simultaneous hits and runners.
2. Let the outfielders from one team body check an outfielder from the other team trying to catch a fly ball.
I guess they would have to use two different colored balls.
18, Olo, guess you and I are the only two here that can watch baseball on the radio. I miss Mark Holtz and other great radio broadcasters. Wonder what great comments Yogi Berra would have about XBL?
Ernie, heard him on a home-built radio set as a kid::
