Could be true, could be crap, but at least it sounds more believable than a lot of the other theories given who Hunt was.
Son Of JFK Conspirator Drops New Bombshell Revelations
As the explosive revelation of E. Howard Hunt’s deathbed confession, in which the former CIA agent and Watergate conspirator admits that he was part of a CIA conspiracy to assassinate JFK, continues to rage across the Internet, the establishment media remains almost mute on what is undoubtedly one of the biggest stories of the decade.

Hunt was first made aware of what his father knew about the events of November 22nd 1963 when he came into receipt of hand-written memos that outlined the birth of the plot to kill JFK in Miami where it was discussed that a coup needed to take place in order to topple Kennedy and save the CIA from being splintered into a thousand pieces, as JFK had promised.
Saint John then opened his mailbox one January morning in 2004 to discover an unlabeled cassette tape on which his father details the identity of the individuals that were involved in the actual assassination of JFK.
Hunt alleges on the tape that then Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson was involved in the planning of the assassination and in the cover-up, stating that LBJ, “Had an almost maniacal urge to become president, he regarded JFK as an obstacle to achieving that.”
Sure: ignore the Warren Commission Reports. Forget that LBJ could have been killed, too, and that John Connely almost was, in the motorcade.
Conspiracy theorists are rarely rewarded. I think it was the Illuminati. Or perhaps the Knights Templar.
A cassette tape; how convenient– and what a sucker you are.
The treasonous activities of the CIA are myriad. One need only look at Vietnam, Central America, Iraq, and dozens of other conflicts over the years to see the evil perpetrated by their work. The Shah of Iran, Batista in Cuba, Marcos in the Phillipines, Noreaga before his fall from grace, the evil and abusive dictators supported and or put into power by the CIA are a morror onto the real evil of the organization.
But once again reactionary political statements devoid of historical perspective allow the nay-sayers to participate in the great cover-up of their illegal, imoral, and often unforgivable actions.
Four words – fifteen minutes of fame.
Some people will do anything for it.
Lee Harvey Oswald, a Castro sympathizer, hated JFK, because JFK dared mess with Castro.
He aimed his rifle from the sixth story window of his place of employment, fired three shots, the first one of which missed, being deflected by a tree, and ricocheting off a the far curb on Elm Street.
The second shot went through JFK’s neck, grazing his vertebra, and from there wounded Governor Connally who was sitting opposite JFK in a jump seat.
The third shot hit JFK directly in the back of the head, causing the brain to explode. The explosion broke through the skull at its weakest point, and causing JFK’s head to jerk down and back. There is no possibility that the backward motion was caused by a bullet from the front, because the direction of the motion of JFK’s head was sharply downward as well as backward, meaning that the bullet would have had to come from somewhere in the sky.
End of story.
I be more convinced that Johnson had something to do with Kennedy’s death if Johnson had actually DONE something as president. Johnson came in and didn’t clean house – heck, he kept all of Kennedy’s people around him and followed through on a lot of Kennedy’s initiatives.

It seems to me that you can’t think that the CIA has done all these evil things, and NOT had a hand in the assasination.
#5 Johnson did do something. He escalated our involvement in Viet Nam. Can you say Gulf of Tonkin?
If JFK had not been assassinated, he would have (further) escalated the war, too. He had already escalated American involvement substantially, in the two years and 10 months of his presidency.
And it was JFK who ordered the assassination of South Vietnamese president Ngo Diem, for being insufficiently aggressive in the war.
Treason never prospers, for if it does none dare call it treason.

Well, actually there IS a difference between the two, now that I think about it.
LBJ was MUCH more pro-civil rights than JFK ever was.
You continue to see thing in left / right, lib/ conserve and I do not.
Let’s see… JFK, a mediocre president at best, though with way more than his fair share of charisma, is shot by a Castro sympathizer. His vice-president assumes the presidency, and other than that there is little or no change in policy or personnel.
So how is that an “overthrow”, Mark?
I think there are around 57,000 men who may disagree with that. If they were still alive. I’m sure you will figure out a way to spin this that Kennedy was responsible for Gulf of Tonkin and war escalation. I can cite sources of JFK desire to withdraw from Viet nam, but I’m sure you can dig up something that says the opposite. And please dont forget Kennedys promise to dismantle the CIA and scatter it to the winds.
One question though. Did you listen to the tape? Do you know who Hunt was and what he “accomplished”. You do know he is dead right. So much for 15 minutes of fame. That man was already famous/infamous.

The war was ALREADY escalating under JFK. It’s not a stretch to suggest that he would have escalated it still further.

Agreed that both parties suck, but how does that prove that JFK would not have escalated the war further than he already did, had he been in office another year and two months? Or five years and two months?
It doesnt prove anything. Do you really want me to link to websites that state his desire to de-escalate the war? Thats just a waste of time. It was Eisenhower (R) who agreed to putting “advisors” into Viet Nam and then warned upon leaving office about our biggest threat being from the Defense contractors (I dont wish to use the overused term MIC), I think to Kennedys’ credit he took that warning seriously and had the intention of pulling out of Nam, and that is one of the reasons he was murdered.
The CIA involvement makes sense because it served their interest as well. I think this was about money and power, not politics. Do I think Oswald shot Kennedy, yes, amongst others. Still I havent heard if you listened to Hunts audio testimony.. Its damning if the truth, of course he could be lying, after all, he did lie under oath twice about CIA invlovement to the Warren Commision. Maybe a deathbed confession lends more credibility, a sudden change in conscience, I dont know. He doesnt sound regretful, just matter of fact.
At least JFK got us to the Moon. Just imagine where we’d be if NASA or private corps. got just a fraction of the money spent on the past 3 wars. Where’s my vacation to Mars? Isn’t it 2001 yet?

Frank- Not to my knowledge. This audio is only 4 minutes of what is purported to be a 20 minute tape. And yes, the son has no crediblity due to his shady background so that would be open to question. Like father like son.

My brother certainly didn’t do this for 15 minutes of fame. If anything this has been an overwhelming burden on both of us. Can you imagine how it would feel to be in possession of this material and the courage it took to bring it to the attention of the american public? We didn’t ask for this it was dropped in our lap. The news program 60 minutes has examined all the material and found it to be completely credible. They will be airing a segment in a month.
