Since there is no undercarriage, he has to jump out of a plane and land with a parachute. The wings have jet engines on them. More

This guy’s got some big brass balls.

  2. evan says:

Possibly the coolest thing I have ever seen.

  3. BubbaRay says:

What a video! I “wore” my 1st aerobatic plane – a Citabria, spruce spars, fabric covered, just a taildragger with stick and rudder, it weighed only 800 lbs. wet.

But this — this is a dream come true. The most fun you can have with your clothes on.

    Nice feat.

  6. Goggles N Teeth says:

Looks cool. I would love to jump out of a Porter anyway with those big sliding doors…. yes, I skydive. I have friends who fly wing suits that would drool for a chance at this! I personally like falling to the ground at 165+ mph!!!
Friends don’t let friends go low…. fall faster!!!!

  7. BillM says:

Truly flying by the seat of your pants!

  8. Brian says:

#6, Skydiver…me too. A porter is really the only mainstream jump plane I have not been out of. My one trip to Z Hills 5 years or so ago it was not running.

  9. Goggles N Teeth says:

#8… ZHills doesn’t have a Porter now… (that I know of.) I have jumped there a few times the past couple of years. They fly Otters now. Nice and Fast. I’ve been enjoying a Pac 750 XL lately at Air Adventures of Clewiston. Nice and fast plane too!!

Check out this guy’s mountain flyby (15 feet) in a wing suit:

Shouldn’t be too long till we can start seeing this thing at airshows – can’t wait!

#9: for a real experience, try jumping out of a C5. Occasionally Dover AFB (Delaware) has a show in which the Army Black Knights get to jump from them. For most of them it’s a new experience being mostly c130 jumpers. Just get near that open door in flight and you’re out, whether you wanted to or not.

Hmmm. Thinking about that – I wonder how big a shoulder-carried wing set one could get out that big back door of the C5? It wouldn’t have to have to fold and it probably could be bigger than one could carry!

Anyone else sick of youtube videos in blogs?

  13. goggles N teeth says:

#12… All hale YouTube!!! A way for people at work to goof off and still look busy staring at their computer screens. I’m at work right now. 😉

  14. Goggles N Teeth says:

#10 – I saw that video on a skydiving movie a while back. I don’t remember what it was called, but good video.

  15. Mark T. says:

#12, I kind of appreciate that blogs like DU show us the cream of YouTube. You can spend hours on YT sorting through the video flotsam searching for the pearls. I say that if the editors or a poster finds a relevant/interesting video then, by all means, they should share it.

I take it you didn’t like my addition?

  16. Slappy says:

    #15 I’d rather read than watch a blog. 🙂

I can go to many sites that categorize and rate youtube videos.

  18. The good news about videos in blogs is that they are easily identifiable and easy to skip over if you do not like them. The also do not take up a lot of space.

And we specifically put vid-expert Harrison Hopper on the team because he does sort through the vids for you!

  19. evan says:

    @Vid people.

I agree that too many vids can be a pain, especially if you are on a slow connection (if nothing else just because it kind of rubs it in your face). But John is right that they dont take up too much space.

Though I think it was yesterday that I logged on and the front page was notably dominated by videos. That is kind of a bummer, there is after all something about a well written cranky blog post that is more satisfying than a video; particularly in those “no volume” areas like work or the library…

  20. BubbaRay says:

It always amazes me that people would actually jump out of an aircraft that still has wings and a tail and isn’t on fire. I’ll bet it’s a real rush.

You could try stunt kite flying on the beach with a train of 20 Flexi-Foils on 400 lb. kevlar dual lines, fly about 1000 yds. and get near the same rush as an engine-out at 300 ft. Hello, titanium hips.

  21. Improbus says:

What happens when suicide bombers get their hands on these? Look … up in the sky … it’s a bird … no, it’s a plane … no, IT’S A SUICIDE BOMBER! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!

  22. hhopper says:

That’s funny and scary at the same time.

  23. Michael says:

I’m guessing the landing must have been ugly.

  24. HOMER says:

This is a great video. I remember my jump days. Nothing like this! Ah, the fun! BTW This guy does have BRAAAASSSS Balls!
