PS3 gets UK price cut -Pocket-Lint.co.uk: And the hits just keep on coming for Sony.
It might not be official from Sony, but retailers disappointed with second week sales following the launch of Sony’s next generation console have taken matters into there own hands and knocked £25 off the price of the console.
£25 = US$49.27
I come to dvorak.org for my daily dosage of gaming news.
#1 (Shane), Do I detect a tone of sarcasm in your post?
Spelling nazi says “disappointing”, not “Dissapointing”.
and Sony said that the Americans are cheap bastards who were too cheap to pay the $599 for a premium ps3 – looks like we are not the only ones.
and for that price.. will it play a HD-DVD?
Do I get Sony’s awesome RootKit tool with my purchase, or is that defined as an accessory?
😛
I’m not a that much of a gamer, so I wouldn’t shell out the $$$ (or £££ or €€€) for the PS3, but I’ve seen it demoing on a 40 inch true HD lcd at my local supermarket and it looks absolutely utterly cool !!
OTOH the Xbox never raised my wow factor.
The reason that it won’t sell (at least here…) is because 599 Euros is a lot of cash. Some people don’t make that much a month here.
I remember the PS2 also. It came out at arounf 450 Euros. Nowdays you can get a “shrinked” one for 150.
Just wait a few months. Or a year. It will (undoubtedly…) surpass xbox and Wii sales combined…
Slow down cowboy… sheesh
It’s still the cheapest Blu-ray player I can get and Blockbuster is now renting the Blu-rays so I’m off to get one…
Well, I have to say that I was yesterday at a Blockbuster (in the U.K.) and they hand signs indicating they had PS3 selling at £399 (I assume the most basic version). Blu-ray movies are also available for rent, albeit with very limited choices.

Didn’t Sony announced that only the souped up version of the PS3 was going to be sold in the UK? (It was in a previous Dvorak blog post but I’m too lazy to look for it.)
This is ironic because the price of the PS3 has increased at most retailers in Canada to $700 from a launch price of $670.
