I’d rather have a Star Trek mailbox with a ‘beam me up’ button for instant delivery of… Wait a minute… Isn’t that email?
R2-D2 Themed Mailboxes – Not So Long Ago At A Post Office Not So Far Away…
To help celebrate the 30th anniversary of Star Wars this year the United States Postal Service will be rolling out mailboxes that have been completely wrapped in custom R2-D2 graphics.
They’re not going to fool anyone into thinking it’s an actual astromech droid ready to deliver your postcard to Obi-Wan but they get the idea across. And I think it’s a good idea these will only be appearing at US Post Offices since if they were installed on the streets something tells me they wouldn’t be around for long.
You might also notice that each mailbox has the website uspsjedimaster.com on the front. The site doesn’t appear to be live at the moment but it’s obvious the Post Office has even more Star Wars tie-ins planned. I don’t think a forthcoming line of stamps would be a bad guess.
I got dibs on the one in my town!
I’ve consulted with my lawyers and it turns out that molesting federal property, ie US Post Office Receptacles, is a federal offense. So what the hell, take all you want. Ive been using the one in the wal-mart parking lot as a urinal for years. Having it dressed up as R2-D2 won’t make my experience any better. Well I gotta go now, they’re coming to get me.
Next suspect or should I say target for the Boston bomb squad.
How long before the U.S. Mint puts R2D2 or C3PO on a dollar coin the size of a quarter?

…AND, in yet another brilliant USPS executive decision, the royalties to be paid to Lonesome George Lucas will be capped, not to exceed $1100.00 for each 1000 coins minted…
One more reason to vandalize the mailboxes 😉
…of course my previous comment presupposes that the planned takeover of the US Mint by the Postal Service is completed as scheduled…
