CROPS FUEL BEER COSTS – DailyRecord.co.uk: Quite amusing consequence of farmers switching their crop production for the development of Bio-fuels. A guess Bill Gates is on to something here, with his investment in Pacific Ethanol.

BEER drinkers could face a pint price-hike because farmers are planting crops for green fuels instead of barley.
Strong demand for biofuel feedstocks such as corn, soya beans and rapeseed is encouraging farmers to plant these crops instead of grain for use in ale.
The price of barley, which is used for beer and whisky, has soared in the past year, with the cost of European malting barley rising 85 per cent since last May.
Jean-Francois van Boxmeer, chief executive of Heineken, said the outcome could be a rise in the price of beer.
