Germany’s ‘Rose Monday’ Parade – news.yahoo.com – More than one Democrat is crying tears of joy over this picture from the ‘Rose Monday‘ parade in Germany.

A float depicting U.S. President George W. Bush being spanked by the Statue Of Liberty passes by during the Rose Monday carnival parade in Mainz, western Germany, on Monday, Feb. 19, 2007. Thousands of spectators attended the traditional street carnival parade in the state of Rhineland-Palatinates’s capital.

I wonder how this would work in New Orleans during Mardi Gras?

  1. Angel H. Wong says:

Well, she IS French after all.

  2. Improbus says:

If his mother had done more of that when he was a child he might not be such a waste of skin now.

  3. Floyd says:

New Orleans would probably love to spank Dubya, after FEMA messing up the relief efforts there.

  4. Smartalix says:

The Rosenmontag parade in Mainz was one of my favorite things to see when I lived over there. Fun, booze, political satire, and lots of lovely ladies. (Mainz is a University town, which also explains the political humor).

  5. Matthew says:

Political satire is what mardi gras is all about and this would go over very well in the Krewe Du Vieux.

  6. JT says:

The Europeans haven’t had this much fun caricaturing one of our presidents since Ronald Raygun deployed Intermediate-range Nuclear Forces (INF) throughout Western Europe in the 80s. Interestingly, the Russians are threatening to withdraw from the INF treaty signed in 1987 because Bush wants to base Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) installations in former Warsaw Pact countries. President Bush really knows how to heighten tensions around the world. He could be responsible for undoing a 20 year old treaty. No wonder he’s so unpopular in Europe.

  7. MikeN says:

Last time was when Reagan was president…sounds like Bush is doing something right to be in that company.

It’d be one thing if this were done in DC or at Mardi Gras, but having the Germans do this makes no sense. Even the Statue of LIberty isn’t theirs.

  8. Hugh Bastard says:

In a newspoll last year on Melbourne’s ‘The Age’ newspaper website, 9000 Australians voted America the ‘biggest threat to world peace’ well above China, Iran, Bin Laden, North Korea etc. Clearly the feeling in Europe is mutual.

  9. Kevin Wenker says:

A lot of us in the USA also feel he is the biggest threat to world peace among all the nations on earth. This is what happens when you elect a stupid man as your leader. And then re-elect because he runs of a platform of “scare the people”. George Orwell was simply 20 years to soon.
