NY1: Top Stories — This is suspicious in every way and one indicator is the use of the poet Khlil Gibran as a straw man to prevent local dowagers from objecting since he’d be their romantic poet back when they were dipshit hippy chicks in 1968. Fact is, he’s been dead for over 70 years. How about the Rod McKuen University next?
I suspect Saudi Arabia and its Salafists are behind this and it will be used to stir up the Jewish community.
The Department of Education says that it will open a public school next fall dedicated to Arabic language and culture. The Khalil Gibran International Academy is one of 40 new schools that will their debut in the city next September.Education officials say that although half the classes at the school will be taught in Arabic, they want to enroll a diverse student body. The school is set to open in Brooklyn.
Huh? No English???? It says that “half the classes at the school will be taught in Arabic”. So what the other half will be taught in? Mandarin?
I get a feeling that there are two words these days that the Yanks hate most: Muslim and Arabic. I am neither, but I happen to be a part of this country and it bothers me to witness another example of American bigotry and paranoia.
I think there is an error here. You HAVE to stand on the seat to deliver an upper decker. From the Cambridge English Dictionary:
Upper Decker – the practice of defecating in the tank of a toilet rather than the proper receptacle bowl, causing a prolonged offending odor from the unseen excreta.
Sholem Aleichem College fosters awareness of all aspects of Jewish life with a particular emphasis on the promotion of Yiddish language and literature, Jewish culture, Hebrew and “veltlekhe yiddishkayt” – a secular approach to Jewish history, traditions and customs, ethics and values. Our purpose is to cultivate in our students’ a passionate sense of Jewish identity and a sense of belonging to the world-wide Jewish people with special ties to the Australian Jewish community and the State of Israel.
And the difference is???????????????
Curmudgen (#3),
Wow, apples and oranges. The new Arabic school is public, secondary, and in New York City USA. The college you refer to is private and in Australia.
I’m printing a copy of that “upper decker” sign to post in our bathroom at home. Not that it has been a problem here, but you never know.
