My neighborhood favorite

People from all ages and places can participate in the Great Backyard Bird Count, Feb. 16-19, 2007. It is a joint project of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society. Now in its 10th year, this fun, free event helps create a long-term record scientists can use to learn how environmental changes – such as urbanization and global climate change – are affecting birds.

Last year participants reported 7,594,742 birds and 622 different species. They submitted more than 60,000 checklists, nearly breaking an all-time record. People simply tally the highest number of each bird species they see together in their backyard, a local park, wildlife refuge or other area for at least 15 minutes, and submit the counts online.

It ain’t just for kids and birders, gang. They really would like participation from everyone.

The first questions is: Do they all taste like chicken?

  2. BirdEater says:

    WOW!

This is a pretty racy topic for an “Uncensored” blog, don’t ya think?

Did Paris Hilton post this topic, or what?

  3. GregA says:

This looks like a good thread to hijack…

If you look at google right now, you will see they have mispelled their name.

  4. woodie says:

OMG — are there readers here who actually walk outdoors and look at something more complex than WOW. Like nature.

  5. undissembled says:

Bring out the BB guns. This allows you to get up close and personal with the birds to correctly identify them.

  6. Gig says:

Damn-it #5 I was going to suggest using a BB gun and mailing all the birds you killed in as my submission.

BTW it is a sucks that the count isn’t today. When I left my house this morning there were at least 2000 of this migratory black bird that comes through here twice a year.

My wife’s car was COVERED with their crap.

  7. hf says:

Previous comments are proof that parrots and Ravens are indeed smarter than most bipeds found online.

  8. Mr. Fusion says:

#6, actually, those were Democratic Shit Hawks. Quite different from the more well known Republican Chicken Hawks. The Democratic Shit Hawks actually do something while the Republican Chicken Hawks get others do do their dirty work for them.

And I see they paid you a visit. Missed your car eh?

  9. joshua says:

#8….I see we get to hear from the Leftist Loony bird, who can’t stand a post without politics being injected.

Sounds cool Eideard, I’ll be home in the morning and will do it there. We don’t get a lot of different species out in our desert, but we get some really cool ones.
