Think Progress » Top Cheney Aide: 2007 Is ‘The Year Of Iran,’ U.S. Attack ‘A Real Possibility’ — And this will accomplish what? We aren’t spending enough money? Iraq wasn’t BIG enough?

Some senior administration officials still relish the notion of a direct confrontation. One ambassador in Washington said he was taken aback when John Hannah, Vice President Cheney’s national security adviser, said during a recent meeting that the administration considers 2007 “the year of Iran” and indicated that a U.S. attack was a real possibility. Hannah declined to be interviewed for this article.

  1. Mr. Fusion says:

Actually, it matters little what Bush wants. Congress will never give him authorization to wage war against Iran. The Iraq WMD lies have lost all trust and faith in Bush’s case making. An Iranian division of troops could cross into Iraq and we wouldn’t believe Bushes evidence. The country doesn’t want to get involved in civil and guerrilla wars.

If Bush does try an air strike or something then I would look to impeachment. Bush and Cheney would soon be calling Pelosi Madam President.

  2. doug says:

#31. Maybe I should get a bumper sticker ala the old Charleston Heston NRA ones

    “My President is Nancy Pelosi”

But anyway, I must disagree – I think it matters a great deal what Dumbya wants. There are enough loyal Republicans in the Senate to hold off any effort to stop him.

  3. doug says:

    oh, better yet, just –

    “Pelosi 2007”

  4. mxpwr03 says:

#26 – I guess we can agree to disagree, history will prove one of us right. As a side note here is an interesting new message from Zawarwi (http://tinyurl.com/2ffg7h). Al Queda is crackin, they’re messages aren’t even that scary anymore. I think him and Dennis Kucinich may have more in common than they think. I say that jokingly… I rather enjoy Dennis.

  5. doug says:

#34. Oh, I am not saying that it is sure that Dubya will attack Iran, just that I have no faith in this Administration acting rationally.

And that was a pretty weak statement from Zawarwi. Good.

  6. andrewj says:

    mother of all wars

  7. doug says:

but it looks like Peter Pace is off-message, no matter how Tony Snow tries to spin it …

  8. mxpwr03 says:

    “all war is deception”

  9. ECA says:

If a war is faught for Little or no reason, it is irrelivent.
the only reason for war, is property/land…if none is gained, Whats a war for.

  10. Greymoon says:

Although I agree that picture looks photoshopped, Bush has been seen flashing that sign. It is used commonly by the Bohemian Grove attendees, and denotes respect to the druidish stone owl they gather about for ceremonies and lakeside talks. Bush attends regularly, as do many world leaders, politicians, pundits and captains of industry.

  11. Lee says:

If Bush attacks Iran to keep his bestest-friends in the death industry happy, his friends in the flammable poison industry aren’t going to be too happy when their product slows to a trickle.

Forget about the Democrats and Republicans, that’s the real contest to watch. To the death in a cage match! In one corner, the military industrial complex, and in the other, the oil industry! DingDingDingDingDing!
