Not the only Shark at Hyundai

The head of South Korea’s Hyundai Motors has been jailed for three years after being convicted of embezzlement.

Prosecutors had demanded a six-year jail term for Chung Mong-koo, chairman of the world’s number six car-marker, for embezzling company funds and other charges.

The presiding judge said the lesser sentence was justified because of Chung’s “big contributions to the development of the country’s economy” and his involvement in charity.

Passing sentence judge Kim Dong-oh said Chung’s actions were “clearly criminal acts” that required a firm punishment.

Are we supposed to conclude that South Korea is different from the U.S.? That corporate corruption exists separate and insulated from political corruption?

  1. Hyundai makes cars?, I thought they were a boat anchor company?.

So he embezzled?, he was probably paying off his Vegas Callgirls like most Asians seem to enjoy. I expect a financial drop in the vegas area soon.

  2. Mark Derail says:

Hyundai cars are very popular in Quebec, due to their low price, and Up-To-Par or better quality than a Chevrolet.

I hate them all, they are all gas bad guzzlers.

Most Hyundai’s have the same MPG as a Chrysler PT Cruiser, another great gas guzzler that could have been made semi-fuel efficient.

lol, I have an orange Tiburon.

  4. Matt H says:

oh, and 3, I get over 30 mpg with the V6.

  5. Angel H. Wong says:

You guys can bet they are as corrupt or oven more than western executives thanks to the Confucian philosophy.

  6. Bryan Price says:

#3, my V6 Sonata LS gets 21MPG in the city. The only car to surpass it for driving (nothing beats the LS in the city) was my Merkur Scorpio, which had who knows mileage with its broken speedo.
