magic bullet

This development is especially good news to us guys, of course, as Prostate Cancer is one of our particular demons. The most promising aspect of receptor decoy molecule therapy is a potential to apply it against similar cancers.

Dr. Sadar’s research was aimed at finding out how the cancer grows without androgen. In the process, the researchers identified a key role played by androgen receptors, which are activated by an agent that scientists haven’t yet identified.

Even without knowing what that mysterious agent is, Dr. Sadar’s team was able to create “decoy molecules” that can be used to overwhelm the process that triggers the androgen reception.

“We’ve been the first ones to do this. We’ve created the decoys. We’ve showed that it works, that you can really keep the tumours in check,” Dr. Sadar said.

I keep saying I’m hope they’ll be able to cure old age by the time I get there, and I’m headed there quickly. ;-)

PS: I don’t mean live forever, I mean live well as long as possible considering wear and tear – ~100 years or so.

I wonder if the new nano bio sensor technology (Science Daily coverage is at http://tinyurl.com/2bfpo3 ) could combine very early detection with this very precise therapy targeting and delivery to eliminate specific forms of cancer altogether. Seems like some kind of sea change might be taking place in how cancer and pathogens can be medically treated.

    Nice Photoshopping.

I’m already there. Every little bit helps.

    Thanks for the compliment, Eideard.

Healthy habits help too, and keeping that prostate well excercised also helps too.

  5. Smartalix says:

    4,

I try to do that myself. Add to that physical exercise and outdoor sports.

I don’t know wether to be intrigued or scared 😉

    7,

To be pedantic, one excercises their prostate every time they ejaculate. I added the need to exercise the rest of one’s body to ensure that one has the ability (and opportunity) to excercise the former.

I know that, I was just being dirty (I blame my catholic upbringing.)
