  1. Mark Derail says:

    Ah, Pedro, I comprehend now.

What I said is the success of Firefox moved Microsoft to produce IE7. It took Microsoft over a year to produce, and in that time Firefox went from 1.02, 1.5, then 2.0.

So, we basically saying the same thing. Just differently.

Microsoft would have never released IE7 as an upgrade if it wasn’t for Firefox, and market pressure.

  2. Frank Sagevsal says:

I’ve used computer for 25 years. I’ve been a Unix sysadmin, I’ve been a Windows Sysadmin, I’ve been a minicomputer admin(look it up they predate the P.C.) Dos was the best program Microsoft produced even if they did buy most of the code from Seattle Scientific. Vista is a giant leap backwards. I saw the software world go from a great diveristy of titles, literally dozens of word processing programs, dozens of databases and utilities to the stagnant pond with the microsoft logo on it that we are forced to drink from. I’ve owned a couple of Macs and a couple of unix/xenix/linux boxes. I’ve owned Amigas I had a toshiba t1000 laptop when it was the lightest laptop available.

Windows & Microsoft had done as much harm as they have done good to the I.T. community. But Microsoft has destroyed the diversity of ideas on how to work with computers, today there is the Microsoft way or the highway. They have cut their own throats, there is no one left to steal from and they have no internal creativity. They bought, stole or strongarmed 90% of their Intellectual Property. It’s strange to watch a multibillion dollar company take 5 years to make an operating system, that is less than the one it replaces. Vista is XP with lipstick and eyeshadow and broken drivers and for this I should give Mr. Gates several hundred dollars. He is delusional. It must suck to write an operating system that nobody but corporations with infinite length copyrights could possibly find interesting.

Who will pick up the torch, it appears unix/linux is where the action is, the circle goes round again back to the o/s of the ’60’s, the o/s microsoft used to run it’s business on, until they figured out how to network dos.

Microsoft thy days are numbered and you won’t be cut down by your competitors, you will fall on your own sword. Bill Gates may wind up being a swear word, or at least to all those who used to own Microsoft stock.
