WFAA-TV – Sunday, December 24, 2006:
One Dallas family said their Christmas miracle came early after both their 2-month-old baby and 4-year-old girl safely made it out of a fire that broke out in the home they moved into earlier in the day.
Dallas Fire-Rescue told the owners it was faulty wiring placed in the 30-year-old wood walls of their daughter’s room that led to the flames sweeping through the family’s new home in the 200 block of Sixth Street at Beckley Avenue.
Derick Wills said his older daughter was sleeping with them in their bed after she said she was too scared to sleep in her own room. It was a few hours later, while Kandi Wills was feeding their baby, that she said she began to smell smoke.
“I just thought about getting my babies and getting out of the house,” she said.
The situation became dire quickly. Everything in their children’s bedroom, which was where the fire started, was destroyed.
While the family said they were devastated plans of opening Christmas gifts in their new home were destroyed, they still said they were grateful the situation didn’t turn fatal.
“I thank God that we made it out of the house in time,”
So let me get this straight, every one who made it out of a burning house alive or all the babies that were saved by technology and modern medicine are only considered miracles on x-mas?
Give me a break! The true miracle is that there are people YEAR ROUND, that are working to save lives and make living better every day.
Tomorrow, December 26th, thank a firefighter or sciencist for the world we live in.
