ITV News – Tornado tears up London streets — The end is near!

A “mini-tornado” has swept through several north London streets, leaving over 100 properties damaged as stunned residents could only look on.

Six people have been injured and firefighters and ambulance crews are still at the scene in Kensal Rise.

Pictures show destroyed house walls with rooms left exposed and bricks strewn over the street and parked cars. Trees were blown over and uprooted by the winds and roof tiles were ripped up.

The end was apparently near in about 1954 also when this area also had a tornado.

These are small storms are rare but not unheard of and certainly not a new thing for the UK – we get about 20 a year.

I gather they are much smaller than their US cousins. – but the sky is not falling.

That said there does seem to be an old farmhouse on top of a witch in the rubble.

  2. ECA says:

well, we have had about 3 in thelast year and Im in southern Idaho

  8. GT says:

Great – another global warming issue. Now we’ll see even higher so called ‘green’ taxes and ban on flying…

Even here in Canada, between Toronto & Montreal, we get 2-3 similar twisters, always have, always will.

Should be easy to find preserved fossils, as that ground was frozen 24/7 the last few thousand years.

  10. Mucous says:

Global Warming (as in natural cycle is probably happening). Global Warming (TM) (as in caused by man is highly unlikely).

  11. Ed Roberts says:

Is it rare to see a tornado in the UK… yes, but it happens to the tune of about 33 a year. Although, I have to say this is the first time I’ve ever heard of a “mini-tornado.”

We must start a war on nature terror. Hurricanes, tornados, earthquakes, sunshine causing burns… when will it end!!!

  12. TJGeezer says:

#10 – Yup, and evolution and gravity are just theories. There are no real data to support any of it. Nope.

  13. OhForTheLoveOf says:

Wow… I read the story and there is no mention of global warming anywhere…

Maybe, and I’m just tossing out crazy ideas here, but maybe global warming isn’t really related to this topic?

  14. BobG says:

Is this the part where we blame it on Bush?

  15. Mucous says:

I only brought it up in response to those who brought it up before me but everything is related to Global Warming (TM). 😉

#4…Yep….I distinctly remember him saying that because of global warming there would be tornado’s in Kensal Rise.

    #7….too, too damn funny.

#8…..Not to worry….Gordon didn’t ask for any Green taxes. So you are free to continue wasting the Planet and it’s resources.

#11……thats because in the UK…..60 mph winds are called a tornado. At home, on the ranch in Arizona, 60 mph winds are a spring breeze.

    #12….DAMN…see, I KNEW it!!!!!!!!!!
