UPDATE: OK, this may be fake. Here’s an item on Snopes that sounds suspiciously similar to this one. Any readers in Germany that can find a link to the original story that can be verified?

Even if it is fake, we still sex ed in our schools.

On the other hand, with beliefs so wacky that they can’t even teach something so fundamental to their kids (if they should figure out how to do it), perhaps they’re better off not having any. Double cripes!

The birds and the bees
A couple from Germany went to a fertility clinic to find out why – after eight years of marriage – they were still childless. The cause of their trouble conceiving was an unexpected one.

After eight years of childless marriage, the 30-year-old wife and her 36-year-old husband decided it was time to find out why they couldn’t get pregnant.

They visited a fertility clinic and the doctors ran some tests which indicated they shouldn’t have any trouble conceiving a child.

A spokesman for the clinic said: “When we asked them how often they had had sex, they looked blank, and said: “What do you mean?”

“We are not talking retarded people here, but a couple who were brought up in a religious environment who were simply unaware, after eight years of marriage, of the physical requirements necessary to procreate.”

The couple now knows about the birds and the bees, and with some luck they will have a child in about 9 months.

Imagine being the one to have to show them what to do…

  2. Mike says:

For some reason, I really find this hard to believe. Even the Amish manage to figure out how to have make children, and they are about as “fundamentalist” a group as they come.

  3. Improbus says:

Are you sure they weren’t retarded?

  4. Roc Rizzo says:

I’m surprised this wasn’t in the Bible Belt. What with all the abstinence programs funded by Bushco, Inc. one would think that it would happen there.

Gods help us if we institute a Federal program here. They would tell them that sex will make your penis fall off, and you’ll go blind.

    Old, and most likely fake.

Yea this soo totally has to be fake. There are some things that you just know how to do —

The Amish are not fundamentalists. Study them a little closer. They are more like hippies (without free love, drugs, rock-n-roll, political protests… okay… they aren’t like hippees)… But they aren’t fundamentalists.

  8. jjs says:

    In Germany. Yea right.

I’ll bet they were both blonde and she had a sore belly button.

  10. tallwookie says:

is that a real book? if so, thats sad.

  11. FSFunky says:

Oh come on, have we stooped to posting urban legends now?

  12. jccalhoun says:

I’m calling shenanigans on this too.
If these people do exist, I doubt sex ed would do any good since to be that sheltered they would have to be home school. You would also have to be in a place without animals as well to have no idea what sex was.

  13. YeahRight says:

Where go you get your information and how do you validate it ?

  14. Mark says:

Wow, fertility clinics are pricey, a porn tape is like $20.00. Of course, you may have to point out the correct orifice. Its not that obvious anymore.

Sex for Dummies? Yep… I did a double take when I saw it while browsing the Library.

I wonder what book the rest of the animals on this planet read?

#18: They don’t need books. They get to watch it live just like humans did before the idea of separate bedrooms came about.

I think I prefer Sex for Dummies to what I saw at Wal Mart the other day… Homeschooling For Dummies.

  20. Ballenger says:

You can’t go deep enough into the outback, far enough off the beaten path or be brought up in a so severely denial based fundamentalist household that you wouldn’t by pure chance, happen to see two squirrels humping at some point and think, “wonder what that’s all about?”. If this isn’t a fabrication, a new species of stupid has evolved in two places at once, somehow found one another and married.

  21. Reality says:

I bet that was the best sex they ever had…and two minutes later they went again.

  22. Chris says:

I’m sorry I don’t think this could ever happen in Germany in modern times.
They have what we would consider pornography on TV, nudity in commercials, uncensored sex discussion in teen magazines, complete with full nudity…I just dont see this happening.

  24. Brian says:

There’s no way this is real. As said above, German teen magazines devote a couple of pages to sex-ed, and schools here have mandatory sex-ed classes. Home schooling, as far as I know, is not allowed, and the country is generally paranoid of religious sects.

On top of that, this thing reads just like a classic urban legeds. Instead of a FOAF, there’s another country. There’s not really enough information to google for specifics. I found the same story reprinted in German, but it’s just as vague. (No link, really annoying pop-ups.)

  25. John S says:

Perhaps it is hard for many to believe but people can miss learning things such as how to have sex. I watched a show where a sex therapist talked about helping a married couple who did not know how to have sex. I also am aware of many misconceptions about sex that many people have… i.e. what causes std’s. Most people do not talk about sex and the stuff they learn from porn is not nearly as informative as many are lead to believe.
