I just received this disturbing news. If any of you knows anything please help…

CNET editor and former Fresh Gear contributor and Lab analyst James Kim has been missing since Saturday. ANY word, especially from people in the Oregon area is appreciated. The information is all below from the official investigation by the SFPD.

Missing Family Includes: James, Kati, Penelope (age 4.5) and Sabine (6 months). Last name is Kim

Overview: The Kim Family left San Francisco on November 17th on a road trip to the Pacific Northwest. They had Thanksgiving in Seattle with family and then drove to Portland. They were last seen by their friends in Portland whom they had brunch with on Saturday, November 25. According to their friends, their plans were to drive out to the town of Gold Beach on the Oregon Coast and then make their way back to San Francisco. James was expected back at work on Tuesday, November 28th. When no one had heard from him by Wednesday morning employees at the Kims’ two stores and his colleagues at CNET began to make phone calls to his family and friends to inquire of his whereabouts. Presently, the SFPD is investigating the case.”

They were driving a 2005 silver Saab station wagon with the personalized California license plate “DOESF.”

If you know anything about James’ whereabouts, you can contact the SFPD by calling 415-558-5508 during normal business hours and 415-553-1071 after hours.

  1. Geoffrey Knobl says:

God be with them, wherever they are. I hope they are just out with a broken car and they are found in some out of the way diner with no phone service.

  2. Raff says:

We had some wicked weather right after thanksgiving… especially along the coast. Someone should consider retracing the probable route taken and look for the car. theres lots of places one can go off the road and not really be noticed..

Tuesday I saw at least 6 cars off the road due to ice..

  3. J says:

I read about this yesterday. I really hope they are all O.K.

  4. Trevor says:

I posted a bulletin to all my Portland MySpace friends. I haven’t seen anything on the local news in Portland unfortunately.

  5. Trevor says:

This story is on the front page of KGW’s website now so hopefully we’ll get some more information.

  6. Mark Derail says:

It’s also on Fark.com, will surely be on Boing Boing & Slash Dot soon if not already.

Imagine, this will be the biggest Tech Man Hunt in Internet History.

    I sure hope they’re fine.

  7. Neal says:

    Best wishes to all involved.

  8. Major Jizz says:

Hope they are ok. They’re probably just stuck somewhere with this crazy weather. They should try tracing some of their cell phones.

  9. Zuke says:

I hope the Kim family turns up safe and sound!! I was just talking to my sister who lives in Portland, and she was saying she was going to fly down to Cali for Xmas instead of drive, since the roads near the border get so treacherous this time of year with snow… 🙁

This is great that this story is getting posted on so many tech sites and the word is getting out. Pray for their safe return!

  10. Tom 2 says:

My prayers are with the friends and family, please let us know when you get any new news.

  11. Matthew says:

A girl went missing not far from here, her car left the road and was not visible unless you were standing near the edge of the road. Unfortunately this is a possibility of what happened to them.

  12. doug says:

    #10. right there with you.

  13. traaxx says:

Yeah, in the great liberal NorthWest we have a great number of people come up missing. They’re turn up in a few years, around hunting season. A large number of these disappearances end up with some guy that should been sent away under three strikes law but wasn’t because of a liberal judge somewhere or a district attorney wouldn’t bother to pursue a criminal case and ended up pleading the case down. Unfortunately we have many many different individuals end up missing each year, with all sorts of rumors about the slave market or just the victim of a serial killer that hasn’t been identified. Interesting to see what gets a liberal post to pay attention to the fate of the many missing individuals each year, oh wait that isn’t what’s happening they must be personnel acquaintance, right 🙁

  14. Odyssey67 says:

@ traaxx: Do you need medication or are you just a garden variety moron? This post of yours is ‘Exhibit A’ regarding why people are starting to hate conservatives with a passion these days; too many of you just don’t know when to turn it off.

This has nothing to do with politics you ass. So either contribute some information that will actually help find these people, or wish them and their friends and family well, and move along to Drudge.

And in the future, if you find it difficult to keep your burning hatred for your fellow countrymen to yourself at a time when no one really gives a fuck, then at least save yourself the embarrassment and keep your mouth shut.

  15. J says:

    #14 Odyssey67

    I second that!

  16. doug says:

yeah, I mean – something tragic could have happened to someone that a lot of us know through TWiT, etc and #13 is using it for some right-wing rant.

    tell it to Rush, traaxx

  17. curmudgen says:

    traaxx

A while back I commented to you that I suffer fools poorly and you have just reinforced my beliefs.

Also, Their seems to be others with the same feelings when it comes to you.

  18. curmudgen says:

    Sorry, replace their with there.

  19. J says:

This story has made my local news.

  20. zuke says:

Traaxx is no conservative or liberal, he is an ASS, plain and simple.

They still haven’t been found and it’s late Saturday night now. 🙁

  21. Ascii King says:

    Any news on this?

  22. Roger M says:

I only know James Kim from TechTV, but it’s enough to make me very sad and utterly worried for him and his family. Like everybody else, I’m hoping for their safe returns.
The Oregon State Police doing at least part of the search, hasn’t reported any breaking news.
All I can do is hope for the best, and I sincerely do.
