Actually, it’s how many will fit on a subway car… but that wouldn’t have been as compelling!

    can you say…
    ‘SARDINE CAN’

  2. ben says:

Yeah, that happens everyday, all day in Japan. They pay those guards to push people in the trains.

  3. bill says:

    Can you say JAL 747?

  4. noname says:

It’s all about being part of the herd in Japan. You have hired cow hands doing classic corralling.

  5. John S in Tokyo says:

How many people can fit on a Japanese subway at rush hour? Always room for one more is the rule of thumb we go by here. BTW, this video is most likely at Shibuya station’s Inokashira line at about midnight. Been there, done that. It’s one thing to watch this, but jumping on is even more of a laugh (unless you are female of coarse), after a few beers that is…

  6. Donald says:

I would say at least 2500 people per 10 car trainset.

I got caught up on a rush hour train on the Chuo Line back in 2002, it’s a 16 car trainset on that particular line and it was completely packed inside there, and I was the 6’1″ mammoth sticking out looking above everybody’s heads (almost… the younger generation seem to be eating a lot of imported food filled to the brim with hormones), a 16 car trainset can probably carry 4000 people at one go.

On the Yamanote Line, they’re getting new trains that have 5 instead of 4 doors and the seats fold up during rush hour so it’s standing room only. I think a 10 car trainset of these can hold as many as the 16 car Chuo Line trainset.

(These capacities I mentioned are no breathing room kinda capacities… 6 people per 10 sq. ft.)

  7. ECA says:

Funny idea, MORE CARS…It cant add any more weight to the Pulling engine..

Bet you dont fall over easy when drunk.

Pick pockets?? they cant GET to your pockets..

  8. Mucous says:

I wonder what would happen if they all farted simultaneously.

  9. Curmudgen says:
