I’ve felt better, let me tell you!

Anti-terrorism unit takes over investigation into poisoned spy – Britain – Times Online — A number of things jump out at me concerning this bizarre story. The first is the use of thallium. This makes zero sense at all. The second is the anti-terrorism unit handling this. What doe this have to do with terrorism. Will parking violations be considered terrorism next? Something is fishy.

Counter-terrorism officers from Scotland Yard took charge last night of the investigation into the suspected deliberate poisoning of Alexander Litvinenko as the first pictures were published of the former spy’s dramatically changed appearance.

Officers said that Mr Litvinenko, a strong critic of President Putin, had been placed under police guard as he continued fighting for life in a London hospital.

The effects of the poison were graphically illustrated by pictures of the ravaged physical appearance of the former agent of the FSB, the Russian state security organisation, as he sat in his hospital bed.

The announcement yesterday of the involvement of Scotland Yard’s Counter-Terrorism Command underlined the seriousness with which the attempted murder of Mr Litvinenko, 41, was being treated, and the possible diplomatic implications if a Kremlin connection were uncovered.

In Moscow a spokesman for the SVR, the Russian foreign intelligence service, said: “We have nothing to do with what happened to Litvinenko. The Russian secret services have not in a long time carried out poisonings or any form of assassination.”

Old Puty Poot had been a very naughty boy this year , I’ll bet he only gets a lump of coal in his stocking

and this is the man GW said “I looked him in the eye and he is an honest good man we can trust ” sometimes my President scares me

    0. “The first is the use of thallium. This makes zero sense at all.”

    Why is that?

“Colourless, water-soluble and tasteless, so often pass unnoticed. … extremely poisonous, and ingestion of more than 10-15mg per kg of body weight can be lethal.

Thallium is also used as a rodenticide in some parts of the world.”

    And then there’s:

“…and even (Thallium) from sniffing contaminated cocaine have been reported.”

But the part that unnerved me a bit was:

Russian foreign intelligence service spokesperson: “The Russian secret services have not in a long time carried out poisonings or any form of assassination.”

Let’s start with how long has Russia been Russia?

Heck, it’s possible the plan here was just “take the guy to lunch and keep buying him sushi”, sooner or later he will die from food poisoning or incorrectly sectioned Blow-fish. Sprinkling on some thallium may have been an afterthought. This is a far cry from the bad old days when the KGB went to the other side of the globe to harvest sea snake venom and engineered the “Boris and Natasha Collection” of poison dart enabled umbrellas.

Also, what a great quote, “The Russian secret services have not in a long time carried out poisonings or any form of assassination.”
What a refreshingly disgusting paradox. Honesty about your assassination history track record. I would have expected a more “new Russia” westernised press release along the lines of “it wasn’t actually poison, he swallowed a weather balloon”.

I bet the Republicans are green with envy! Wait, that’s Thallium.
