Who needs the French to burn cars? Many do it on their own.

Gti catches on fire for no reason

Race car…wow

Parked car goes up

Apparently static does cause explosions at gas stations!

Another small car up in flames

  1. Steve says:

Those static fires happen more than you think, I’m a station inspector and we get videos all the time of fueling fires caused by improper/illegal fueling.

The women should not of left the nozzle and got into the car. We had one video of a woman brushing her hair back and the static between hair and her coat caused the flash fire !

  2. Mike says:

One more reason to buy a diesel car I guess.

  3. Improbus says:

I knew there was a reason to carry a fire extinguisher in my car.

  4. Danijel says:

The first one is so dumb it looks almost certainly staged, but apart from that these fires seem quite harmless. It takes them at least half an hour to burn and are easy to put out. No big Hollywood explosions or anything…

  5. Mark Derail says:

Depending on your point of view, the Prius doesn’t catch fire unless subjected to a particular red-neck fury.

So I can drive easy, knowing my car doesn’t use Li-Ion batteries and doesn’t spontaneously combust, and proof in this video, requires A LOT of work to flame up.

    Tongue In Cheek Post

  6. Wayne Bradney says:

The GTI one is scary if true — isn’t the firewall supposed to keep the flames in the engine compartment rather than the front seats?

The same thing happened to my Toyota a few years ago, but if you saw the car afterward the interior was virtually untouched — the engine compartment was totally gutted and the car a write-off.

  7. Ballenger says:

You have to give Sparkie, the girl in the blue acrylic fire-starter sweater credit. Even under the stress of the moment she was courageous, yet feminine and rather cool headed (at least figuratively) throughout the event.

  8. Tom 2 says:

This is what youtube is now all about.

  9. This is in fact the ture citizen journalism. Today looks like Youtube day on the blog.

  10. Mark says:

My family had a Dodge Pioneer that caught fire in the garage while idling, we had to push it out of the garage to keep it from burning the house down. Best thing that ever happened to that piece of shit.

  11. James Hill says:

And I thought the other sex related posts were odd. You’re one kinky SOB there Dvorak.

  12. Yes, Hill I actually get THAT joke. Obscure, but not bad. Now go play with matches!

  13. ioiosotwig says:

If you have ever changed fuel injectors, you only have a rubber O-Ring keeping the fuel away from the hot engine… And add to that an electric fuel pump, that keeps on going unless you turn OFF the ignition, It’s a wonder we don’t have more fires…

  14. Mike Voice says:

I guess they’ll be showing some of these in Oregon, the next time we try to repeal the State Fire Marshall’s ban on self-service gas stations…

  15. ECA says:

    1. small engines GET HOTTER then the old Big bores ones.
    2. Plastic covered wiring…. I dont care HOW well its run, Keep the HEAt away from it.
3, Plastic and Rubber are the main Lines for ALOT of fuel lines, check under the car.
    4. Aluminum, is a GREAT heat conductor, If 1 part is HOT, so is ALL the rest and FAST.

If the water in the engine is even ALITTLE low, small engines can gain ALOT more heat then usual. MOSt of these engines have, whats called, DUMMY lights and NOT pressure gauges or temp guages, WHICH means you Must check the water levels,
BECAUSE, You have NO sencor to tell you IF a leak has emptied your water…Yes, I have seen this happen. Warnings are only given if the water is to HOT, and if you have no water, you get NO warning. the top of the engine will get OVER 600F degrees and you WONT be able to add water to it, and the TOP of the engine will WARP when it cools down, as well as kill/melt ALL the seals.
600+ degrees under a hood, will melt ALOT of wires, If you catch it as in the FIRST video abit early, PULL the Positive WIRE OFF the battery. Your ignition WILL NOT turn ALL the power off.

  16. ChrisMac says:

I grew up referring to the dash warning lights as idiot lights..
As in if you don’t physically check your liquid levels regularly.. You may require said lights..

I find the “check engine” light particularly hilarious..

and.. If you drive a late model dodge minivan, shadow, sundance or any other related models.. check your water level twice a week or be prepared for a $800 head gasket explosion.. (you can buy another one of these vehicles for about the same price)

As for car fires.. Your more likely to be hurt/maimed/killed crossing the street..

    Fun to watch though!

  17. Mr. Fusion says:

So which is the bigger danger here. A terrorist blowing up a car or the car self igniting.

  18. Nathan says:

    1. The GTI was modded (clue 1 is the non-airbag steering wheel).
    2. The race car – Holy crap. Too bad they put a stupid scam ad @ the end.
    3. Girl @ Gas Station = ID10T. There’s a reason the signs are there.
    4. Broke my heart to see the Evo burning.
    5. I’ve gotta start carrying my video camera w/me more often. With a 45mile one-way commute every day, I’ve seen several cool things.

  19. ECA says:

    18,
It looked like a mod, and The wiring was to close inside, and then the manifold looked ABIT close to the fire wall.
The Static, YEP…Cold DRY day and 1 good RUB. TOUCh the car, AWAY from the gas first.
AND, she could have Capped the gas tank, quickly, and Nothing would of happened. Leaving it open, Oxy gets inside and IF its real LOW, it could go BANG/BOOM/WHAM…

17, considering that sence 1997, there have been OVER 5 recalls due to faulty wireing?? Including the VW.

ANd I do carry a cheap Digital around with me.

  20. ChrisMac says:

    oldskool photoshop

  21. Michael Hawthorne says:

The fires are caused by those batteries manufactured by Sony.

  22. Mats says:

Car nr 4(the Evo) was a distraction in an robbery of a bank here this summer. The Evo was brand new stolen from dealer in Sweden.

  23. ECA says:

So, 1 fire can make it possible to rob a bank??
