Santorum kid flips off USA on national TV. Classy.

Wonkette: The D.C. Gossip

There are so, so many things to love about this picture. Well, three things: Rick Santorum conceding, a little girl crying, and an awkward pre-teen flipping off the nation. We declare this the official screenshot of the 2006 midterm congressional elections.

  1. Improbus says:

Goodbye Satantorum, we will not miss you.

  2. guywithglasses says:

I’m thinking that he is pushing his glasses up his nose with his middle finger. I’ve done it and I’m sure pretty much everyone with glasses has too. Except I don’t get caught on camera and thrown on a website. Not that I’m a fan of Rick Santorum, but give the kid a break.

  3. ECA says:

I will bet the KID gets a ERAL tongue lashing…

  4. syngensmyth says:

Who said Dvorak was mean spirited?

  5. GregA says:

Did you guys hear the people wailing in grief during his concession speech?

  6. RTaylor says:

I have gathered over the last several months that JCD doesn’t tolerate idiots well regardless of their party affiliation. I don’t either, but I’m just an old fart that sits around listening to too much NPR. 😉

  7. Curmudgen says:

The kids reaction is the only honest comment coming out of his dad’s campaign.

    So much for family values!

Rick will probably have Dada beat his ass.

  8. lou says:

I did read an interesting column in the times about Mr. Santorum. He may be a major a-hole regarding the religious/state separation and Iraq, but on some issues including helping the poor, sick and hungry of the world, he was supposedly a real decent human being. (Even Bono said so). Just a for what its worth.

As to the picture of the kid: if the kid was featured in any political advertising for Mr. Santorum, then too bad, if you make them props, people will treat them like props…. since it was probably inadvertant, its is kind of lame using it.

  9. James Hill says:

I think the kid is just showing how many people in the crowd really voted for that pud.

  10. frank says:

I can just imagine what the little girl must be thinking: “….gee, if dad’s not rich i’ll have to go to a school where there’s black people and mexicans…daddy showed me pictures of them…boo hoo hoo”. And isn’t she a little old for dolls? I can only imagine the “prep talk” and “character design” these children get in order to communicate the image that is desired by their robot parents.

  11. Matthew says:

    #10 don’t worry about her, she’ll be a lobbyist in just a few years….

  12. That about sums up our current status.

  13. tallwookie says:

#2, yes i do it too (having worn glassses for 15 yrs now), but its still awesome – that kid has great foresight… lets elect that kid for the Prez for 2028!!

  14. Bruce IV says:

I’m with guywithglasses – I mean you try to use a different finger to push your glasses back up on your nose, but the middle is the longest and finds the bridge of your nose fastest – JCD has glasses himself (or at least wears them for pics …) and should know better 🙂

  15. jason says:

    #10,
Dad will still be rich. In fact he’ll be richer. Former officials often go on to private consulting today and make an even greater fortune.

  16. Pete says:

#2 interesting. I have worn glasses for 30 years and I always use my index finger.

  17. RBG says:

Hey, even the mom is giving an “up yours, pal.”

  18. Chris says:

#2, #16, I used my middle finger for pushing up my glasses too, for 30 years also, if doing it longer makes me more right, lol. And I used to poke myself in the eye out of habit for a while afterwards when I got contact lenses. For god’s sake, sometimes pushing up your glasses is just pushing up your glasses. It’s not the Bush Fascist Youth salute, or a conspiracy. Everyone do a test and touch the bridge of your nose, and look at which finger you use.

  19. sdf says:

Amateur. Bush wipes his butt with the Constitution in this kid’s general direction.

  20. sh says:

The Democrats are in power …..We’re all saved…..oh happy day….

  21. J says:

Oh come on this is one of those gotcha pictures. The kid is just adjusting his glasses. In real time it probably took a slit second.

I am glad to see his daddy gone from power but lets not take target practice a wounded duck.

  22. Olo Baggins of Bywater says:

He’ll be a hero to all his friends. Heck, anytime you can do that on TV I’m all for it.

  23. James says:

I don’t know about you, but I learned not to flip people off while pushing up my glasses. Theres always someone that may take it the wrong way. Sure I use my middle finger, but I generally leave the other fingers extended when I do it.

I’m sure it was accedental (mostly) but still, when you’re on camera you should extra careful anyway. Many a YTMND have been made off simple goofed gestures.

  24. Ballenger says:

The kid on the bottom left is thinking, “when I grow up I’m going to become a dictator and have all these politicians and their rabid supporters deported or worse. Then, 10-year-olds like me won’t be used as campaign props and can stay home and play Nintendo.”

On another subject, it’s astounding how fast the right has adopted a Post 11/7 message of “working together”. Astounding, in that it is such a flip-flop from last week’s, anyone who disagrees, move to the “pound sand” self help line to the left.

  25. Bono says:

Lay off the guy’s children. Geeze.

  26. DeLeMa says:

Makes you wonder if the finger salute is worth more to the FCC than an exposed nipple ?!? We shall “see”…Lol

  27. Hey it was a Wonkette post I thought you all would like.

  28. DeLeMa says:

It wasn’t much different than a lot of humorous photogs’s published simply because they’re funny…and this IS funny for whatever reason..no ?

  29. RBG says:

It’s like the current CNN photo of Donald Rumsfeld shown hanging his head in shame… instead of what he was actually doing – checking if his fly was open.

(That photo will certainly be replaced soon as it headlines CNN)

  30. Mark says:

“I can just imagine what the little girl must be thinking: “….gee, if dad’s not rich i’ll have to go to a school where there’s black people and mexicans…daddy showed me pictures of them…boo hoo hoo”.

Funny stuff, needed to be said again.
