Turn junk into jewelry!

Tech Chic – handmade Sterling and black diode choker/earrings — I ran across this on Craig’s List and this is is sheer genius! Tear apart an old computer and make jewelry from the diodes (as above) chips and what-have-you. Probably will not stay posted for long.

  1. James Hill says:

JCD, give that as a gift to your wife and let us know how Christmas goes.

  2. Sounds like a plan!

  3. DeLeMa says:

Hmmm….diodes only allow one way traffic ? Something else going on here, perhaps ? IT”S A PLOT I tell ya !!

  4. jbellies says:

If resistors were used instead of diodes …
kikikomori kids in Japan could size up prospective dates by evaluating the colour-coded rings. Low resistance = easy ray.

  5. Rich says:

People should use carbon-comp resistors- probably more plentiful than old diodes. Plus they have pretty value bands!

  6. SN says:

Gee, these are cool. I should get one for my wife. Except she doesn’t like to wear jewelry. And she’s not really my wife. She’s my cell mate. And, since he’s 7’2″ and weighs four hundred pounds, I guess I’m really the “wife.”

Gee, maybe I should buy one for myself!

  7. RonD says:

Helzberg has nothing to worry about here. 🙂

  8. Cliff says:

I’d be a bit worried about toxicity and heavy metals poisoning.

  9. annette says:

Go for it, John. The chokers are tacky, but the earrings are cute. I’d wear them, if only for the stealth value – I’m a programmer who usually wears “real” jewelry, by which I mean emeralds, sapphires, diamonds, etc.

In fact, I think I’ll beam this idea to my husband … he keeps spending $ on stuff like jewelry when what I need is a big flat TV and a Dremel and a cabin up north and a sofa for my office and … um, new shoes. (Well. You know.)

  10. Roc Rizzo says:

Heck, I’ve been using old SIMMs for keyring fobs for eons!
they all have a little hole in the upper corner of them to put your keyring through. You always know that they are your keys, because who else, other than a nerd would use a SIMM for a fob!
